What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Fleet Manager - ALASKA PACIFIC SEAFOODS position at North Pacific Seafoods, Inc?
The Kodiak plant, known as Alaska Pacific Seafoods or APS, operates 12 months a year, with peak production during the summer months.
The Assistant Fleet Manager plays a key role in managing and maintaining production flow by assisting the Fleet Manager in contracting, scheduling, and supporting vessels in an assigned area. Reports directly to the Fleet Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures fleet and operational compliance with local, state and federal regulations, as well as company policies, in areas or responsibility.
- Prioritizes safety for the fleet and APS employees.
- Works with the Fleet Manager to ensure APS meets corporate business objectives by controlling costs and achieving production goals.
- Ensures that the fishing fleet follows company policies.
- Assists in tender placement and movement during the season.
- Assists in reporting related to fleet and fishing:
o Radio Schedule - Tracks deliveries and pounds on the water by tender and by location. This report is used to create the Tender Landing report and the ADF&G reports.
o Landing Report - Summarizes fish bound for plant delivery to key managers.
o Fish and Game Reports for all districts.
o Catch by Opening Report Tracks fish purchases by calendar day.
- Oversees and tracks fishermen freight and purchase orders.
- Works with the fleet to ensure the quality and age of incoming raw material is up to desired company standards. Ensures high fish quality starts on the fishing grounds.
- Understands the production processes, flow and timing to effectively coordinate fleet landings.
- Works with the Fleet Manager to become familiar with the decision-making process for fishermens credit, POs and advances.
- Assists the Fleet Manager in managing of the Dock Crew.
- Assists in recruiting and retaining APS fishermen and tenders.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
- Minimum of 3 years in the fishing industry (fishing, tendering, dock or fleet operations)
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Must be self-motivated and has the ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and work efficiently in a team setting.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Consistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Must be willing to relocate to Kodiak, AK
Transportation, Room and Board
The majority of employees are locals who live in town. Non-local employees may be able to live in our small bunkhouse which is located at the plant or at a company owned apartment .
Alaska Pacific Seafoods is currently not providing meals to employees.
No Tolerances
North Pacific Seafoods prohibits the use, sale, or possession of ANY drug not medically authorized. We do not allow the use or possession of marijuana, medical or otherwise, at our plants. Employees may be asked to submit to random, post-accident, or for cause testing at any time, and NPSI reserves the right to search all areas of the plant without advance notice in order to maintain the no tolerance policy.
Payroll Information
Pay periods are biweekly. Our workday is defined as the calendar day, and our work week runs from Monday through Sunday. Employees are paid on the Friday following the end of the biweekly pay period. We encourage employees to sign up for direct deposit but you may elect to receive paper checks instead.
