CLASSIFICATION: 12 Month Administration
STATUS: Exempt
JOB SUMMARY: Provide leadership in the areas of staff development, instructional skills, problem solving, teambuilding, school/community relations, strategic planning and development of the school vision and mission statements; provide a safe, orderly environment conducive to learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise and evaluate professional, indirect, and service personnel; assist in interviewing prospective teacher candidates and participate in the selection, supervision, and assignment of all school building personnel.
- Assist in the orientation, pre-service, and in-service training of teachers with special responsibility for instruction of administrative procedures; participate in the assignment, orientation, and supervision of substitute teachers.
- Plan, coordinate, and maintain records of staff meetings for the proper functioning of the school.
- Administer the registration, orientation, and assignment of pupils; supervise pupil attendance and discipline, coordinate the guidance function including the testing program, and oversee maintenance of student cumulative records.
- Establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school; supervise the school's educational program including the planning, organization, and implementation of all school activities, programs and schedules.
- Assume responsibility for the safety and administration of the school building's grounds, equipment, and supplies; plan and supervise fire drills and the emergency preparedness program; distribute supplies and equipment and maintain an adequate inventory.
- Establish goals and building initiatives.
- Prepare the building's budget; monitor requested materials, supplies, and equipment; maintain and control the various local funds generated by school activities.
- Assume responsibility for the implementation of policies and procedures and recommend changes as needed.
- Prepare or supervise the preparation of reports, records, handbooks, and information required or appropriate to the school's administration.
- Serve as the educational leader who develops, plans, and facilitates continued professional development for staff members.
MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend special events held to recognize student achievement and other school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.
- Assist in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum; participate in the development and implementation of the school's curricular programs including gifted, special education, and summer school.
- Establish and maintain favorable relationships with local community groups and parents to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Five (5) years experience in public education necessary, including secondary school instruction
- Assistant principal or supervisory experience is helpful
- Master’s degree required
- Proper Pennsylvania administrative certification necessary
- Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
- Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
- Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994
- Submission of Federal Criminal History Record in accordance with Act 114 of 2006
- Submission of the Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form as required under Act 24 of 2011
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
