What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at North Phoenix Baptist Church?
Description:
Financial Reporting ~ 50%
- Create month end reports for Stewardship Committee and Elders.
- Ensure accounting and reporting are completed in accordance with GAAP and other industry standards.
- Ensure compliance with IRS, state and local tax regulations including filings.
- Prepare and distribute budget vs. actual financial statements of general fund and community engagement ministries monthly.
- Ensure accurate tracking and reporting on special funding campaigns.
- Manage designated funds to ensure appropriate usage.
Financial Planning and Management: ~ 50%
- Works with Executive Pastor of Finance and Administration and ministry departments to facilitate annual budget.
- Monitor and manage cash flow.
- Oversee disbursement of accounts payable weekly.
- Work with the Human Resources Manager to ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time.
- Facilitate annual audit of financial statements and act as lead liaison with external auditors.
- Identify, analyze and report trends in giving and expenses and report to Executive pastor of Finance and Administration.
- Be the lead relationship with our bank and financial software partners.
- Recruit, train, manage and disciple finance department staff.
- Ensure proper policies and procedures are in place to ensure proper financial management.
- Collaborate with Administration and Ministry departments.
- Participate in general expectations of Administration staff such as staff meetings, team assignments, etc.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
- A committed Christian living a life of obedience; beliefs consistent with NPHX Church statement of faith.
- 1 - 3 years of experience in church or non-profit accounting or bookkeeping.
- Accounting degree or equivalent experience. CPA preferred but not required.
- Self-motivation and commitment to excellence is required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to appropriately handle confidential information.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time.
- Familiarity with computer and general technology is required.
- Familiar with accounting and payroll software (Shelby Next and Paylocity preferred).
- Must be/become a member of NPHX Church.
