North Reading High School has an anticipated opening for a dual certified Mathematics/Special Education Teacher as a long-term substitute during the 2024-2025 school year. Tentative dates are from November 12, 2024 through February 25, 2025.

Certification required 

  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education teaching license in Moderate Disabilities, grades 5-12
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education teaching license in Mathematics, grades 8-12 

Essential duties 

  • Serve as a special education teacher in substantially separate/small group model classes for students with specific learning disabilities, Autism spectrum disorder, and/or other learning challenges 
  • Provide direct instruction, support, curriculum modifications, and accommodations for students with learning challenges in an inclusion/co-taught setting
  • Serve as student liaison, complete special education evaluations, develop appropriate IEPs in conjunction with students' teams, and lead annual team meetings
  • Provide consultation to general education staff
  • Primary content specialist/educator for Mathematics instruction (Alg. I;Alg. II; Geom.)
  • Unit/lesson planning
  • Direct instruction of students
  • Assessment of student learning
  • Be available to conference with parents/guardians and families as needed or requested
  • Work closely with our Mathematics and Special Education teams to ensure pacing and learning expectations are maintained
  • Other duties as assigned by the building Principal or their Designee

 Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education teaching license in Moderate Disabilities, grades 5-12
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education teaching license in Mathematics, grades 8-12 
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Collaborative working demeanor
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
