Teacher-Special Education Long-Term Substitute

The J.Turner Hood Elementary School is seeking a 0.5 FTE Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teacher from March 17, 2025 through May 9, 2025. North Reading Public Schools is actively looking to build a diverse workforce to ensure all students feel welcome, safe, and valued for who they are and supported to reach their potential.

 

This position is scheduled for 2.5 days per week. The typical Elementary school day is 8:00 AM-2:15 PM.

 

Essential duties

  • Direct instruction of students
  • Monitor student progress on an ongoing basis
  • Serve as the IEP liaison for students in the classroom, and complete all associated state mandated paperwork, including progress reports and chairing annual review meetings
  • Conduct three year re-evaluation testing and other testing as appropriate
  • Support student inclusion opportunities through the implementation of behavior intervention plans, and appropriate engagement strategies
  • Provide day to day oversight of Paraprofessional staff
  • Collaborate with general education and special education teachers
  • Attend faculty and department meetings as directed
  • Collaborate with parents/guardians and outside providers
  • Other duties as determined by the building Principal, Director of Student Services, or their Designee

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education teaching license in Moderate Disabilities, K-8
  • Working knowledge of evaluation and IEP development
  • CPI training preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Collaborative working demeanor
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
