What are the responsibilities and job description for the DETENTION OFFICER position at North Richland Hills City Hall?
Detention Officer
The purpose of this position is to oversee the proper and safe booking, release and holding of the City’s prisoners. This is accomplished by completing booking and releasing of prisoners according to standard operating procedure guidelines, entering prisoners’ information into computer system, filling out appropriate paperwork, fingerprinting and searching prisoners before entry into prison facility, photographing prisoners for legal and documentation purposes, logging prisoners’ personal property upon entry, inputting prisoners’ information into computer system upon release, supervising activities of prisoners, conducting cell checks, accounting for prisoners’ whereabouts in facility and distributing meals and medication to prisoners. Other duties include maintaining proper operation of jail equipment, assessing inventory supply levels, notifying supervisor of concerns, operating intoxilizer equipment, completing documentation paperwork as required and interacting with other City employees and citizens. This position does not provide directions to other employees.

What We're Looking For
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- No experience required.
- Must obtain Basic Jail Certification and State Intoxilizer Certification within one year of employment as a condition of continued employment.

Work Schedule:
- Three 12-hour shifts, either 6a-6p or 6p-6a.
- One four-hour shift (those hours differ based on need).
- 4-day work week.
- Three consecutive days off (based on seniority)
