What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor-Maternity Leave Coverage position at North River Collaborative?
Become part of a team of school social workers working with North River Collaborative member districts. Open position available in a public elementary school in southeastern Massachusetts supporting Kindergarten to 2nd grade students with both individual and group counseling. Regular LICSW supervision provided.
1. The School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor works under the direction and supervision of the North River Program Coordinator and the School Principal and Director of Special Education or his/her designee.
2. Teaches evidence based SEL curriculum and provides group and individual counseling to students as identified.
3. Participates in Team meetings and re-evaluations, presenting an overview of student’s needs and recommended strategies for appropriate planning and support services.
4. Delivers student services as determined by the Team and Director of Special Education and provides documentation of all services, including, when requested, IEP goals and progress.
5. Provides support and consultation to families and conducts regular contact with the family and outside providers, as indicated.
6. Provides information regarding community recreational and therapeutic resources and assists families in accessing necessary services.
7. Screens all student referrals. Maintains progress notes based on goals/objectives.
8. Consults with teachers, administrators, school nurses and school psychologists on a regular basis.
9. Provides referral services when indicated and acts as Liaison with community mental health and other local and state agencies.
10. Provides emergency screening and crisis intervention as needed.
JOB GOAL: To work with students and families through the professional application of social work practice in the treatment of social/emotional and mental health conditions that may inhibit a student’s academic progress. To provide assessment and direct services to students in consultation with the family, administrators, teachers, and other service providers. To make referrals to community-based services as needed.
