- High School Diploma or equivalent as required by OAR 581-37-030, Oregon Department of Education
- 18 years of age or older
- Pass a District-approved language assessment (speak, read, write) in the language spoken by the majority of students with whom the Special Programs Assistant works.
- Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, and staff
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of students and their records
- Ability to supervise individual students or groups of students in an instructional setting without constant teacher oversight; work in a team situation

- Assist ELD teaching staff in typical tasks: administer prepared lessons to small groups of students; administer a teacher-prescribed program designed to increase student skills on a one-to-one basis; answer student questions concerning assignments; demonstrate and assist students in use of equipment and resources (e.g., reference materials, computer lessons, video viewers, and tape recorders); guide students in activities that help develop the English language
- Assist special education teaching staff in communicating with teachers and parents on student’s progress, as required by specific job assignments
- As required by specific job assignments, assist with recordkeeping to monitor students’ daily and monthly data on instructional and behavioral progress
- Assist ELD teacher in diagnostic testing and reporting
- Prepare and teach a unit of instruction under the supervision of a teacher
- Perform clerical duties such as typing, computer entry, duplicating, and recordkeeping
- Provide supervision of student(s) in buildings or other school areas and school-related activities (i.e., hall duty, at assemblies, in lunch and playground areas, or with school buses as required)
- Assist the classroom teacher in maintaining class and student records
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff
- Participate in in-service programs as assigned
- Act as a friendly ambassador of the North Santiam School District
- Perform such other tasks, including tasks of a SPA I, or II, as deemed appropriate to the Board or Administration

Stayton High School empowers students for life through relationships, high expectations, and active participation. We need a passionate Spanish-language interpreter to support emerging bilingual students and provide translation services. The ideal candidate will build strong relationships, use questioning to support learning, and encourage active participation. This role collaborates with teachers and requires expertise in language frames and self-advocacy skills for student success.
This position is subject to a funded budget based on staffing needs. Specific assignments are subject to change.
JOB GOAL:Under the direct supervision of a licensed teacher or administrator, the Special Programs Assistant III will provide support to students in our English Language Development (ELD) program in the student’s native tongue. Positions may be contingent upon available federal funding and the needs of the given student(s).
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Positions assigned to the Special Programs Assistant III classification are distinguished by the responsibility to provide, under teacher supervision, direct instruction and support to students who are English Language Learners and assist with the development of teaching materials.
