North Shore Animal League America - the world's largest no-kill rescue and adoption organization - has saved the lives of over 1 million dogs, cats, puppies and kittens at risk of euthanasia. Through our many innovative programs, we reach across the country to rescue animals from overcrowded shelters, unwanted litters, puppy mills, natural disasters and other emergencies and find them responsible, loving homes. As a leader in the no-kill movement, we are dedicated to promoting shelter pet adoptions; encouraging spay/neuter programs; reducing animal cruelty; ending euthanasia; and advancing the highest standards in animal welfare.
We are seeking a full time 5 days a week including 1 weekend shift Adoption Counselor/Admittance Associate to counsel and educate NSALA adopters in the proper and humane way in which to care for all adopted pets. Process all pets admitted through Adoption Counseling.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Counsel adopters with basic behavioral advice
- Generate and accurately process all adoption return and home admit paperwork
- Schedule appointments for adoption returns over 30 days
- Generate new and/or obtain existing medical records
- Process entry of admitted pets into our computer databases
- Generate weekly statistical reports from those databases
- Document and present more serious behavior issues to our Pet Behavior staff
- Document and respond to all phone messages left for Adoption Counseling in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Previous experience working hands-on with animals in a shelter environment or veterinary facility a plus. Must have basic understanding of canines and felines. We will train you!
- Must have impeccable customer service skills and be able to maintain a positive and friendly attitude at all times
- Be detailed oriented to provide thorough and detailed reports regarding intakes and returns
- Good communication, organizational skills and active listening skills
- Ability to work independently, Able to work interdepartmentally throughout the organization
- Desire to make a positive difference in the lives of animals
