North Shore Animal League America - the world's largest no-kill rescue and adoption organization - has saved the lives of over 1 million dogs, cats, puppies and kittens at risk of euthanasia. Through our many innovative programs, we reach across the country to rescue animals from overcrowded shelters, unwanted litters, puppy mills, natural disasters and other emergencies and find them responsible, loving homes. As a leader in the no-kill movement, we are dedicated to promoting shelter pet adoptions; encouraging spay/neuter programs; reducing animal cruelty; ending euthanasia; and advancing the highest standards in animal welfare.
We are seeking a part time Groomer 24 hours/3 days a week. Required workdays are Tuesdays, either Wednesdays or Thursday and every Sunday. The experienced Groomer will assist in grooming North Shore Animal League America Dogs and Cats as well as animals that have been adopted from us.
The ideal Groomer MUST be able to groom Cats.
Schedule grooming appointments as needed and answer the phones. Grooming consists of bathing, cutting hair, de-matting and clipping nails. Treat for skin diseases and bathe (using medicated and grooming bath solutions) cut hair, de-mat and clip nails as needed. Administer special dips to animals as prescribed by a Veterinarian.
Prepare the setup of all grooming equipment (blades, clippers and scissors).Disinfect all cages, dryers and tubs. Keep the Grooming Department clean and disinfected. Secure all tools and equipment in appropriate cabinets at the close of the day.
Requirements:
· Knowledge of grooming practices for wide range of small animals, including hand-scissoring skills.
· Grooming certification a plus!
· Previous experience working hands-on with animals in a shelter environment or veterinary facility a plus
· Apply knowledge and skills in controlling and/or handling individual animal temperament.
· Possess ability to gain animal confidence when restraining them for grooming.
· Possess above average customer service skills.
· Willingness to maintain sanitation of animal areas.
· Desire to make a positive difference in the lives of animals.
