Position Parameters
Primary Function : Assist the classroom teacher in the supervision and management of a class between fourteen and twenty children, ages 1 to 5 years old.
General Description : Work with lead teacher, program director, program assistant director, and other staff to create a nurturing environment for children to learn, play, and grow as young Christians.
Responsible to : Early Learning Principal and Classroom Teacher
Responsible for : Assisting the lead teacher in managing the classroom, supervising students in designated areas, and meeting the job requirements and qualifications.
Instructional Responsibilities
- Assists in planning and implementing the daily schedule, weekly lesson plans, and themes as set by the teacher and program director.
- Assists in ascertaining the classroom meets licensing requirements, in planning and setting up learning centers, and preparing / restocking art and snack supplies.
- Supervises and keeps track of attendance during classroom activities, nap time, outside time, snack, and restroom time.
- Helps with housekeeping tasks : sweeping; cleaning and sanitizing tables, toys, cots, and other surfaces; gathering laundry on Friday; and cleaning up accidents.
- Is flexible and willing to assist as needed by the lead teacher and director.
- Is involved and creates learning experiences during all times of the day, deals calmly with stressful situations, and models respect and a love of Christ to children and coworkers.
- Updates parents on their child's day, any upcoming events, anything that needs to go home (toys, clothes, art, handouts), and needed supplies (i.e. diapers, wipes).
- Attends all ELC staff meetings, recommended trainings, and conferences.
- When closing the classroom, turns off appropriate lights, closes windows and shades, sprays appropriate areas with bleach water, and leaves the room neat and clean.
- Knows and maintains the proper teacher-to-student ratio, fills out incident reports as needed, prepares snack according to WA state requirements, and follows all state and federal requirements for a licensed childcare setting.

Cooperates with the administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.Keeps the administration adequately informed of deficiencies and potential problem areas. Someone who has received and acknowledges Jesus Christ as his / her Savior, feels called to the position, is a member of good repute in an evangelical church, and lives in a manner glorifying to God. He / she needs to be spiritually mature and have academic and leadership abilities. He / she should be in agreement with the Northshore Christian Academy's Statement of Faith and our academic purpose : to honor Christ in every class and in every activity.
The applicant must be 16 years of age and have a current TB (Tuberculosis) test, first aid card, CPR Card, and HIV training or obtain these within 30 days of employment. 30 hours of STARS training is necessary. An aide must enjoy working with children, and have the patience, temperament, and ability to meet the needs of those in his / her care. She / he needs to have the communication skills to talk with parents. Other qualifications may be added by the School Board as deemed appropriate.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee must be able to move about the campus and buildings; use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to sit or reach with hands and arms.
The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Evaluation / Supervision
Performance of these responsibilities will be evaluated by the Early Learning Center Director.
