services and practice that enhance the quality of pharmaceutical care provide to patients at North Shore.Medical Center.
Physical And Mental Demands
Repetitive use of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, remove and replace medications frominventory and prepare various types of pharmaceuticals. Must have excellent hand and eye coordination torepetitively work with small items. Pushing medication carts that may weigh 30 pounds or more, for up tothirty minutes of time, multiple times around the building, on each work shift. Walking, sitting and/orstanding for hour at a time. Stooping, kneeling and bending multiple and repetitive times. Lifting boxes,supplies, medications, I.V. fluids that may weigh up to 40 pounds. Must be able to work under stressfulconditions subject to multiple interruptions with long hours between meals and breaks. Must be able toadjust work priorities and assignments to meet customer needs and expectations. Ability to perform workcompletely, quickly, independently and accurately with attention to detail. Must be able to communicateeffectively orally and in writing with other staff members and healthcare providers. Must be able to meetand provide for the pharmaceutical needs of all patients being served.
Equipment Used
Laminar flow Glove boxes, telephones, fax-machines, computers and their associated programs pertainingto the profiling, ordering and dispensing of medications, time-clock, Unit-Dose packing machine, andOmnicell Med station or any similar automated dispensing cabinets and supporting computer applications.
Working Conditions
Ventilated and air-conditioned work areas, illuminated with fluorescent lighting. I.V. solutions are preparedin enclosed glove box and hazardous I.V. solutions are prepared in a negative air-pressure hood that isvented to the outside of the work area. Access to the work area is secured, monitored and entry is limitedto employees.
Hazards
Potential exposure to toxic materials secondary to the recurrent handling of hazardous and cytotoxicmedications and supplies. Potential for sticks and cuts from needles and or other sharp objects. Potentialfor muscular and skeletal injuries secondary to improper lifting and carrying techniques.
Supervisory Control (if Applicable)
Required to oversee, coordinate and supervise assignments and activities of pharmacy technicians,and students from the College of Pharmacy and Technician training programs. Supervise and coordinate
clinical pharmacy activities associated with kinetic dosing and monitoring of medications.
Required Education/Licensing
Must have current and valid license to practice Pharmacy, in the State of Florida.
Required Work Related Experience
Previous hospital experience is desired but, willing to accept recent or foreign graduates and pharmacistwith retail experience Must be willing and able to work day, afternoon, evening and night shifts on weekdays, holidays and in timesof emergency, such as natural disasters. Must also be able to provide overtime shifts in times of staffingshortages, emergency situations and natural disasters. Incumbent will perform other duties as assigned. Management retains the right to add or to change theduties of the position at any time with or without notice. Employee must not pose a direct threat to thehealth or safety of himself/herself or others.
