What are the responsibilities and job description for the IHLC Specialist - Point Lay position at North Slope Borough?
Maintain biographies and oral history, collections on the people, land and villages of the North Slope and make the information accessible to the schools and the general public.

Research, write and assist in the publication of oral history gathered from each of the villages and from elders.
Review NSB oral history collections for content and recommend priorities for translations / transcriptions and directions for future research.
Assist with the storage and conservation of collections related to the history, language and culture of the North Slope villages.
Assist in updating the Traditional Land Use Inventory.
Coordinate and conduct interviews with residents born and raised on the North Slope Region, which may include working with classroom teachers and students.
Acquire photographs and oral history tapes by communicating with individuals and institutions that possess North Slope materials in close coordination with the Museum Curator.
Coordinate and assist in organizing archaeological and traditional knowledge research projects on the North Slope.
Assist in the coordination and implementation of community workshops and gatherings pertaining to traditional knowledge while promoting the use of the Inupiat language.
Iñupiaq language learning support.
Assist in the development and implementation of after-school programs promoting the history, language and culture of the region.
Assist in staff development and orientation programs for new hires.
Assist with bringing fluent Iñupiaq Speakers into the classrooms (school based IHLC Specialist only).
Assist in the development and implementation of culture camps (school based IHLC Specialist only).
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
Skill in using personal computers and a variety of software applications.
Ability to pass the Inupiat speaking test and Inupiat written test.
High school graduate or G.E.D/or a combination of 12 years of education and related job experience.
Two years of work experience with archaeology or anthropology or Inupiat History, Language & Culture.
Must be able to pass a background check to work in the schools (school based IHLC Specialist only).
