Summary or Purpose
This position is a GRANT FUNDED position and will end with the completion of the grant program.
Provide administrative management and oversight to health education and wellness programs on the North Slope. Promote public health education within the Health Department programs by facilitating outreach and education for the Tobacco Prevention Programs. Function as a liaison between Health & Social Services programs and other community agencies with regards to health education and health promotion programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Promote physical and emotional health as a state of well-being and the result of choices made by the community and the individual based on knowledge, behavior and tradition.
Keep the community and community organizations informed of what services are available through the Health and Social Services Department.
Coordinate, supplement and support the educational activities of the Health Department programs to encourage continuity of approach and to eliminate duplication of effort.
Partner with other Tobacco Prevention Control funded programs in overlapping communities, including participation in regional workgroups to build and enforce tobacco policies.
Attend Health Department management meetings, workshops and conferences to remain up-to-date on current activities and health related issues.
Assist with the coordination of health fairs and community health events sponsored by the North Slope Borough Health & Social Services Department and other agencies.
Develop and distribute public service announcements, posters, pamphlets, health-related presentations and other forms of advertisements.
Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with agencies and organizations interested in public health through coalition building and coalition participation.
Develop and present health education and promotion programs such as training workshops, conferences and school or community presentations.
Research grant opportunities to obtain funding for health education programs, Health Department programs and other health-related opportunities.
Travel to North Slope villages as required.
Represent the region on the Alaska Tobacco Control Alliance.
Coordinate training at the Allied Health Training Center with partnering programs.
Work with the Grants Division to ensure Tobacco Program grant compliance.
Assist in the coordination, preparation and development of reports and special projects.
Represent the Borough at meetings, conferences, and negotiations as directed by the NSB Health & Social Services Department Director.
Participate and help organize community health assessment and health improvement processes for North Slope communities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of local community resources and various community service programs.
Skill in data collection and analysis.
Skill in drafting and completing accurate reports, technical documents, and correspondence.
Skill in using personal computers and a variety of software applications such as Adobe, Publisher and Excel.
Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required
Associates Degree (business, government, health, public health or related field) OR Two years of work experience in the health field.
One year of grant writing or grant administration work experience.
Ability to obtain a valid Alaska Driver's License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria within the probationary period.
Applicant must pass a criminal history background check conducted by the State of Alaska Background Check Unit.
Documentation that the individual is free from active pulmonary tuberculosis.
