What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinarian position at North Slope Borough?
Ensure the health of NSB residents in the areas of public facility, food service, sewage and water sanitation, animal control and zoonotic disease and disaster preparedness. Provide veterinary medical care services as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, who acts as program director to program staff

Respond to public concerns regarding health-related subjects, investigate and solve problems or refer to the appropriate agency.
Supervision of inoculation of animals routinely for diseases, especially rabies.
Oversee enforcement of Borough A.C. Ordinance 77-2-2 including control of stray animals and rabies outbreaks.
Provide animal medical and surgical care. This includes but is not limited to: examinations, health certificates, dental procedures, reproductive surgeries (spay/neuter), amputations, and other necessary surgeries
Oversee euthanasia procedures
Promote responsible animal ownership and community safety from animals inflicted by injury or causing a nuisance, while providing veterinary related services.
Provide information and education to the public including educational programs for the school system and public concerning sanitation, water, pet animals, wild animals and disease.
Assist with inspections at the request of other agencies (i.e. State of Alaska) and assist with providing a resolution.
Provide 24-hour “on-call” status in response to animal illness and injuries.
Travel to NSB villages to provide veterinary medical care.
Participate in continuing education to maintain license, as required by the State of Alaska.Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
Skill in using personal computers and a variety of software applications.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, other Borough employees and representatives from other local, state and Federal agencies
A Doctor of veterinary Medicine from an accredited university,
Ability to be licensed to practice in the State of Alaska within the first six weeks of employment;
Ability to obtain and maintain DEA License;
Ability to obtain a Valid Alaska driver's license that meets North Slope Borough Insurance criteria within the first six weeks of employment.
