Key Responsibilities
- Develop and write speeches, talking points, and remarks for the NAVSEA Commander and Executive Director, ensuring alignment with strategic messaging and organizational objectives
- Craft messages that align NAVSEA initiatives with those of the Secretary of the Navy, Chief of Naval Operations, and the Office of Legislative Affairs
- Research and incorporate NAVSEA, Navy, and Department of Defense (DoD) priorities, history, and current events into speeches and communications
- Collaborate with senior leadership, public affairs, and policy teams to ensure speeches effectively convey key messages and strategic objectives
- Adapt speech content to various audiences, including Members of Congress, military personnel, industry stakeholders, and the general public
- Provide editorial support and strategic communication guidance for leadership correspondence and official statements
- Maintain awareness of emerging defense policies, legislative actions, and naval traditions to integrate relevant content into speeches
- Review and edit speeches to ensure clarity, coherence, and consistency with DoD communication standards
- Assist in the development of strategic communication documents that support NAVSEA’s mission and engagement efforts
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a professional speechwriter
- Demonstrated experience writing speeches for senior defense and/or military industry leaders
- Strong record of excellence in written and oral communication, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely
- Experience as a military speechwriter at the Echelon I or II level preferred
- In-depth knowledge of NAVSEA, naval history, heritage, and traditions
- Familiarity with the Navy, Department of Defense, and current defense-related issues
- Ability to research, synthesize, and articulate technical and strategic concepts in a compelling and engaging manner
- Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with senior leaders and communication teams
