What are the responsibilities and job description for the American Indian Ed Culture and Language Instructor position at North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale Schools?
- Collaborate with American Indian Education staff
- Develop Dakota and Ojibwe culture and language curriculum/lessons to be implemented in the Middle and High School after-school programs
- Coordinate and plan the implementation of the Dakota and Ojibwe culture and language classes at the Middle and/or High school after-school programs
- Collaborate with American Indian Education staff and building administration to schedule PreK-12 culture lessons throughout the school year
- Support the monitoring of the Language Revitalization Grant and the grant’s implementation. This includes record keeping, collaboration with the Finance Office and Teaching & Learning, and MDE reporting
- Assist in the development of PreK-12 educational and cultural activities
- Assist in the development and ongoing review of PreK-12 curriculum and resources, in collaboration with Teaching & Learning, Student Services, Technology, Office of Educational Equity & Communications
- Act as a Home-School Liaison, especially for those students participating in the after-school program
- Maintain a comprehensive written progress report on participating students, to be shared with families
- Meet regularly with building administration to strengthen the relationship with families and participating students to build and bridge access to academic, social and emotional growth opportunities.
- Participate and contribute to Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings, if invited to attend
- Participate in frequent professional development opportunities
- All other duties as assigned by the American Indian Program Coordinator
- Strong skills in Dakota and/or Ojibwe Language and Culture. Deep knowledge of the history and culture of both Dakota and Ojibwe tribes of MN
- Excellent interpersonal skills with district staff, parents, and students
- Ability and willingness to collaborate with colleagues
- Familiarity with educational systems
- Ability to work effectively as a part of a team and independently
- Must have a valid driver's license and dependable transportation, staff travel daily to different schools within the district
- Computer skills, including proficiency in the Google platform (ie., documents, sheets, calendar)
- Associate in American Indian Studies or Bachelor Degree
- Ability to be flexible with schedule.
- Valid MN teaching license
- Experience leading an after-school program working with Native American youth groups and programming
- Proficiency in Infinite Campus, Schoology, EduClimber
- Experience implementing a grant-funded program from the MN Dept of Education
