What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation Safety Coordinator position at North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale Schools?
- Ensure Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and MN Department of Public Safety regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate and ensure field compliance with Driver Qualification (DQ) Files, Motor Vehicle Reports (MVR) process, and DOT Drug and Alcohol (D&A) Testing Program.
- Ensures District-owned vehicles are properly maintained for safety and reliability through regular audits and inspections.
- Review and support internal and external audits and follow-up of corrective actions.
- Serve as the leader of OSHA compliance, best practices, and regular review.
- Assist in supporting integration of safety policies and practices at various levels of the organization designed to reduce incidents and claims.
- Ability to build successful working relationships with district administrators, school resource officers, local city and county emergency management agencies to
- Advise and assist in the development and implementation policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure safety programs are aligned with ISD 622 and departmental goals.
- Ability to drive to: collision and incident scenes; conduct field supervision of drivers; and to attend meetings.
- Conduct incident/ collision investigations and after-action reviews.
- Analyze safety trends and recommend and carry out improvement initiatives based on this data.
- Support records and data management functions.
- Work with transportation and operations leadership to effectively manage and implement loss control measures and training based on feedback from district insurance carriers.
- Develop, implement, and provide support training on:
- Student behavior management;
- Safe driving techniques;
- “Creating a culture of safety”;
- Customer service;
- OSHA compliance;
- Emergency response and
- Other topics relevant to student transportation
- Schedule employee training and maintain records. Plan and coordinate required safety training sessions for employees ensuring compliance with regulations. Keep accurate and up-to-date records to track completion, certifications and renewal dates.

- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
- Unrestricted valid CDL with Medical Certification, passenger endorsement, no air brake restriction
- Two years experience in pupil transportation safety and training and/or four years of experience in passenger transportation safety or a related field.
- Prior experience with transportation systems such as Traversa, Vehicle telematics, and/or Trip Tracker
- Prior experience administering the federal Department of Transportation mandated drug testing program
- Experience with Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions (PBIS) and/or Restorative Practices in a school setting.

Summary:
The Transportation Safety Coordinator will support the work of the Transportation Department by providing safety, regulatory, and compliance interface, training, and follow-up to district employees and vendors. Support the safe delivery of transportation services to all public and non-public schools within the boundaries of North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale Schools in accordance with School Board policies, and state and federal guidelines.

ISD 622 is a community collaborative dedicated to educating and empowering all learners to excel in our changing world. As a Transportation Safety Coordinator in our learning environment, the individual will work indoors in a climate controlled office environment, outdoors in all weather conditions, and in a vehicle. The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
