About North Star Family Services
North Star Family Services is an emergency shelter that assists five families simultaneously in a community living/group environment. Each family has had specific barriers and challenges that led them to homelessness. We are looking for a team member to help build up these families’ “toolbox” to become self-sufficient and permanently housed.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Support program participants with daily life issues and address barriers to self-sufficiency (such as mental health issues, parenting issues, financial management, scheduling and job seeking, health and nutrition issues, etc.)
· Conduct weekly training series with parents.
· Maintain organized files and documentation.
· Assist program participants in locating affordable housing and applying for funding to aid families in their transition.
· Manage screening process for family waiting list and program participants to be transitioned into the shelter.
· Conduct follow-up check-in calls after families transition to permanent housing.
· Monitor shelter culture in the milieu and address issues accordingly.
· On-call expectation: Participate in after-hours communication via text /call with program participants as needed and team on-call communication.

Qualifications
Education
a. Associates Degree or equivalent experience preferred in; Human Services or Social Work
Skills and Abilities
a. Ability to work in a respectful and program participant-centered manner
b. Able to work independently and as a team player
c. Great attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to multi-task
d. Able to communicate effectively and have excellent written and oral communication skills
e. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
f. Satisfactory Criminal Record
Licenses and Other Requirements
a. Obtain and maintain current First Aid and CPR certification
b. Maintain a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and vehicle insurance coverage
c. Access to a suitable vehicle during working hours
