Domestic Violence Law Practice Assistant
North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic is seeking a full-time Practice Assistant to join its Domestic Violence Law Practice.
The mission of the North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic (NSLAC) is to provide accessible, quality, equitable, free legal services in the areas of domestic violence, housing, and immigration to give low-income, at-risk community members access to justice and the opportunity to live productive and secure lives. NSLAC is a 10-year-old dynamic nonprofit with a collaborative culture and the goal of becoming the model legal aid organization focused on suburban communities.
The Domestic Violence Law Practice Assistant joining our team will be expected to assume the following responsibilities:
Maintain detailed client information in case management database and organize case files in compliance with internal policies.
Conduct prescreens and intakes of clients as needed, as well as assist in the preparation of discovery and other court documents.
Answer phones directed to DV practice, take messages, schedule appointments and coordinate meetings; arrange audio and video conferences.
Provide other administrative support to the DV team, including mailing, copying, printing, scanning, drafting and e-filing.
Proactively look for and suggest ways to increase efficiencies for the DV law practice.
Provide support to the senior practice assistant.
Assist in interpretation needs.
Actively participate in Domestic Violence (DV) meetings to discuss current projects, workflow, case acceptance, and client matters.
Perform other responsibilities needed to ensure the DV teams success.
Qualifications/Skills:
Bilingual (Spanish-English) candidates are strongly preferred but not required.
Paralegal certificate is preferred, but not required.
Should have strong interpersonal skills and be a team player.
Must be compassionate and patient.
Experience in providing administrative support is desirable.
Previous work experience in legal environment is desirable.
Excellent oral/written communication, organization, and research skills are required.
The Practice Assistant will take 40-hour domestic violence training once hired.
Benefits:
$45,000- $52,000, commensurate with experience
