Description

The Quality Specialist, Sr. leads the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures to meet established quality standards. This includes performing process audits and inspections, identifying and addressing improvement opportunities and ensuring that effective resolutions are achieved. Additionally, this position coaches best quality practices and fosters a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organization.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant work experience 
  • Certified Lead/Internal Auditor certification preferred 

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to assist in the development or develop policies, procedures, and metrics 
  • Ability to analyze data and create and review processes
  • Self-motivated, assertive, and ability to work under pressure with deadlines both independently and within a team
  • Demonstrated ability to build and foster trust-based relationships; collaborative and inclusive team player
  • Strong verbal, written, and other communication skills
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Experience: 

  • Three years in quality and food supply chain or related field preferred
  • Prior work experience in a regulated environment preferred 
  • Experience with LEAN or similar process improvement methodologies a plus

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with the process owner on the development and deployment of policies, procedures, and programs designed to minimize risk, enable compliant business operations, products, and services, and drive uncompromised food bank integrity, reliability, and predictability
  • Leverage expertise of regulatory requirements (Quality, ISO, DOT, FDA) and apply knowledge to evaluate regulatory changes, assess risks, and analyze their impact on the business
  • Lead and direct efforts to assess the implementation of quality management systems to drive performance improvement and enhance departmental integrity and optimizing system efficiency
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures, programs, and processes to ensure conformance with quality, regulatory, and company requirements
  • Plan and perform routine process & procedural audits
  • Provide ongoing guidance and direction to operations personnel regarding regulatory and quality matters
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and initiate corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) to establish effective and satisfactory resolutions
  • Utilize Lean & Six Sigma tools to drive quality and continuous Improvement activities across the organization 
  • Monitor federal, state, and local regulatory activities to implement new company procedures or update existing procedures to facilitate compliance; serve as liaison with local, state, and federal regulators
  • Assist the Quality Director in NTFB’s business continuity and disaster recovery efforts as well as the annual food defense risk assessment
  • Represent and/or lead special projects identified by or assigned to the department, this includes cross-functional projects as well
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.    

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

  • Moderate to loud noise (e.g., business office with open floor plan with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic, and in the warehouse with forklifts and pallet jacks, medium to heavy traffic)
