JOB SUMMARY The Surgical Scheduler is primarily responsible for scheduling surgeries, tests and pre-op appointments; explaining preparations; and collecting deductibles and co-payments for surgeries. The Surgical Scheduler is under the overall on-site supervision of the Patient Access Supervisor. SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Schedules all surgeries, as sent in to the department by physicians or physician's offices, per policy and procedures. Organizes and prepares the Surgery Schedule for the following day and delivers to all appropriate departments daily. Ensures that documentation meets current standards and policies. Responsible for knowing hospital policies. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well in stressful situations Answers the telephone in a polite manner and communicates information to appropriate personnel. Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationships with co-workers. Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; self-motivated. Communicates appropriately and clearly to director, supervisors, managers, co-workers and physicians. Willing accept additional job assignments and tasks from upper management using a team approach with a positive and professional attitude. Complies with standard departmental practices such as: great phone etiquette, confidentiality among peers and being courteous to others. Maintains a good working relationship both with the department and with other departments. Completes work with designated time. Promotes effective intradepartmental and interdepartmental relationships. Complies with regulatory requirements and all other organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Cooperates in planning programs and safety and preparedness for fire and disaster. BASIC SKILLS Basic computer knowledge Ability to type accurately with speed Excellent Customer Service Skills EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school graduate or equivalent. At least one (1) year experience in customer service/scheduling preferred LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages a plus. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to sit for long periods of time and stoop/kneel as needed.
