Heavy Equipment Operator - Landfill
Section 1 – Position Summary
This position performs duties in the operation of the NTMWD Landfills. The position is responsible for the operation of a specific area which may consist of operating various pieces of heavy equipment in the landfill. Works under general supervision.
Section 2 – Major Responsibilities
1. Operates and monitors performance of the heavy construction type equipment, such as landfill compactors, bulldozers, loaders, scrapers, off-road articulated dump trucks, motor graders, etc., within the landfill.
2. Performs routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment operated with minimal supervision.
3. Monitors certain process operations as directed by supervisor.
4. Responsible for housekeeping in assigned units.
5. Responsible for observing safe work practices.
6. Verify that delivered waste is in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.
Section 3 – Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
1. Requires sustained mental attention regarding correct process adjustments necessary for proper Landfill maintenance.
2. Spatial discrimination; eye-hand-foot coordination; manual dexterity; ability to follow written and oral instructions; generally good physical condition.
3. Minimum of two years of experience in operation of heavy construction type equipment.
4. Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.
5. Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
Section 4 – Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment
This position requires moderate physical exertion with daily lifting requirements up to 25 pounds. Working conditions include exposure to weather and odor. Subject to shift work. Equipment used includes bulldozers, loaders, articulated dump trucks, fuel truck, backhoes, motor graders, air compressors, high-pressure washers and other miscellaneous equipment.
