Summary:
Provides professional landscape maintenance of the Authority’s perishable landscape assets on an assigned Tollway. This is accomplished by removing litter/debris, weeding, performing activities related to landscape maintenance, and other activities associated with improving the appearance and condition of the landscape. The Maintenance Tech II – Landscape operates equipment including dump trucks, tractors, forklifts, front end loaders, skid loaders, and various other pieces of heavy equipment as required. The position also includes operating push mowers, zero turn mowers, string trimmers, edgers, aerators, and various other pieces of landscape equipment. Other duties include making landscape modifications; tree/shrub trimming, plant replacement or installation, or installation and landscape bed construction. In addition, the proper use and application of pesticides including herbicides, insecticides and disease mitigation chemicals will be a function of this position. Assisting others within the Landscape Division with landscape inspections and preventive maintenance activities will also be required of this position.
This is a designated Essential Employee position as defined in the NTTA Employee Handbook. An essential employee is one whose attendance is required to maintain agency operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.
Responsibilities:
- Removes all litter, debris, and unwanted items within NTTA’s landscape limits.
- Landscape maintenance including but not limited to removing weeds, replacing mulch, applying fertilizer, and repairing erosion damage.
- Performs blowing, edging, weed eating, brush and tree trimming, chipping and removal of brush and trees.
- Assists with the installation, removal and/or replacement of landscape material to include replacement of ornamental grasses, shrubs and trees as required to maintain landscape as originally designed.
- Under the direction of a licensed pesticide applicator, apply pre and post herbicides and insecticides.
- Assist irrigation technician or licensed irrigator in landscape irrigation repairs.
- Participates in Snow and Ice Events by preparing, operating, and cleaning various pieces of equipment and vehicles.
- Operates and inspects of all NTTA equipment, tools, and vehicles, before and after use. Reports any damage and/or failures in accordance with established procedures.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
· Level of knowledge equivalent of 4 years’ high school education
· Up to 1 year of experience
· Valid Class “C” driver’s license (ability to obtain Texas Class “C” within 30 days of hire)
· Ability to obtain Class “B” CDL within 12 months of hire
Preferred:
· Class “B” CDL
