Victor Treatment Centers (VTC) is a non-profit residential treatment program and non-public school that exists to provide a healthy, healing living environment for severely emotionally disturbed youth who have such great needs that they are not able to succeed in family situations and/or lower levels of care. Children age 8 through 18 who have not been successful in family situations, foster homes, or group homes can find success within the Victor Treatment Centers environments. VTC provides 24/7 supervision in conjunction with intensive mental health services. VTC residential services are based on a foundation of strength-based and relationship-based approaches that support the optimal recovery and resiliency for these youth. Summary of Duties
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for the overall management of a special education classroom. The Special Education Teacher manages and implements the school curriculum; supervises students, and Instructional Aides. The Teacher is responsible for complete follow through of the IEPs (Individual Education Plan) from the placing school district.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a valid California Teaching Credential and Special Education authorization as indicated by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (or be eligible for university internship or provisional permit).
Must have valid California Driver's License, clean motor vehicle DMV record.
Must pass a pre-employment physical including a drug test.
Must have the unrestricted capacity to employ physical restraint techniques in a safe manner.
Must possess basic knowledge of the English language.
Must be able to interact and communicate in a timely, friendly and cooperative manner with other professionals working with severely, emotionally disturbed children within the educational industry while traveling, meeting, presenting, participating in workshops and training sessions or performing class-room activities pertaining to the Agency's clients.
Must be able to work safely with seriously emotionally disturbed children who may become violent, and physically and verbally offensive without reacting in a negative, cruel or hostile manner.
Requires the ability to think and act quickly in emergencies; effectively deal with personal danger; maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of exercising sound judgment and rational thinking under varied circumstances.
