Job Purpose Statement/s:
Engages in preparing, cooking, serving food and cleaning up after food has been served in a school cafeteria by performing the following duties.
Qualifications:
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance and employer drug and/or alcohol testing. Employee must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Food Handler’s Permit. Must hold a current recognized first aid card or be willing to obtain same if directed by the district under ORS 342.664 (2).

Knowledge of basic kitchen utensils and equipment and their appropriate use;

Knowledge of measurements used in portioning ingredients;

Some knowledge of methods of food and food preparation;

Knowledge of safety and sanitation procedures, as required by local sanitarian;

Ability to prepare food according to prescribed recipes with little constant supervision once procedures are learned;

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:(To include but not limited to)
- Conducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest tradition of public education in support of the District’s mission.
- Prepares and serves appropriate quantities of food in a timely manner, assuring proper quality and quantity of food prepared
- Prepares and assembles a variety of hot and cold entrees, fruit, vegetables and other foods
- Follows written menus, production records and production standards
- Follows recipes for consistent quality and cost effectiveness
- Collects supplies from storeroom, freezer, coolers and puts items away in an organized manner.
- Batch cook as needed on a daily basis
- Assist with monthly inventory
- Assist with ordering, notifies leads when product needs to be replaced
- Prepares food service facilities for the serving of food
- Minimizes waste
- May need to use sheet for daily meal count form as students come through meal line, reviews food items to ensure students have a reimbursable meal and coaches student if no proper items/portion. Provides coaching if a student is missing items to qualify for a reimbursable meal.
- Follows standard operating procedures for food safety and sanitation in the receiving and storage of supplies: in food preparation, in storage, minimize of waste, in cleaning and maintaining equipment
- Provides ending food counts to lead for production records at end of meal period
- Reports equipment failures as soon as noted to Kitchen Lead
- Follows training on correct use and care of equipment and in maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety
- Follows training in all functions of food preparation and service
- Participates and prepares for special events as scheduled by the Principal/Vice Principal or district
- Participates in required hours of annual continuing education as scheduled by district
- Participates in Nutrition Service departments training to satisfy Oregon Department of Education and to stay abreast of new programs, standards and menus
- All other duties as assigned to ensure the services to students, staff and guests.

Any offer of employment made by North Wasco County School District is contingent upon satisfactory results of:
