WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR

Northampton Borough Municipal Authority (NBMA) Water Department is seeking applicants for a Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Operator at its water treatment facility located in North Whitehall, Lehigh County PA. This is a full time position that rotates between all shifts, 24/7/365.

The WTP Operator has certain general and specific duties and responsibilities which must be fulfilled in meeting the general function of the position. They include but are not limited to the following:

• Operating and maintaining the mechanical, chemical, process and electrical controls of the treatment plant to produce quality potable drinking water in accordance with all applicable PA and Federal regulatory standards.
• Perform a variety of tasks required to establish and maintain the flow of water through the water treatment plant including cleaning of intake screens, starting and stopping pumps, operating valves and gates, etc.
• Operate and maintain chemical feed systems including accepting delivery of chemicals, batch mixing, adjusting feeder settings, etc.
• Operate and maintain treatment processes including washing filters and tracking sludge from the flocculators and sedimentation basins, pumping process waste water, etc.
• Taking water samples from various points throughout the WTP and distribution system and perform the necessary laboratory tests to maintain and verify plant performance and water quality.
• Perform jar treatability tests when required
• Record plant operation and maintenance records
• Perform routine and preventative maintenance of the treatment process, pumping, mechanical and electrical equipment
• Perform maintenance of outside and inside facilities as requested, involving lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, using stairs and working safely in confined spaces.

The WTP Operator reports directly to the WTP Manager

QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• A valid PA driver’s license
• Mechanical ability and average computer skills
• Ability to communicate verbally and in written form
• Ability to follow direction and instructions
• A PA DEP Class A-1 Water Treatment Plant Operators license or the ability to obtain one within two years of employment
• Completion of the necessary courses needed to obtain the PA DEP Class A-1 license
• Thorough understanding of the water treatment plant operating process preferred but not required
