About the Job:
Northaven is a non-profit, affordable senior housing community located on a single campus in Seattle's Northgate neighborhood. It comprises two independent housing communities and an assisted living facility, notable for being one of the few in Seattle that accepts Medicaid-dependent individuals.
In collaboration with Gaard Development, Northaven will extend services to their new building. This partnership will introduce an 89-unit workforce housing community, featuring an affordable early learning center focused on minority families, managed by the Refugee Women's Alliance of Seattle. With its inauguration in January 2025, Northaven is set to become a deliberately intergenerational community.
The Development Director, reporting to the Executive Director, is instrumental in the planning, coordination, management, and execution of Northaven's development and fundraising initiatives. These include direct appeals, cultivating major donor relationships, planned giving, as well as event planning and fostering community and corporate partnerships.
Primary Responsibilities Include the Following:
· Collaborating in the development and execution of the organization's strategic plan.
· Developing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that aligns with the strategic goals and supports the annual operations of the organization.
· Working in partnership with the Executive Director and Board of Trustees to implement fundraising goals and strategies.
· Closely managing data and reporting with the Executive Director and Director of Finance to track progress towards annual budget targets.
· Acting as the internal authority on fundraising trends.
· Assisting the Executive Director in guiding the Board of Trustees to understand and execute their fundraising responsibilities.
· Leading the strategy, fundraising, marketing, communication, and execution of fundraising events.
· Supporting the grant proposal development and submission process by identifying needs and matching them with potential resources.
· Managing direct mail fundraising campaigns, including the creation and distribution of content.
· Directing stewardship initiatives, ensuring prompt acknowledgments and genuine donor stewardship practices to foster donor loyalty and retention.
· Serving as the primary project manager for all campaigns, appeals, and fundraising events.
Qualifications:
Education
· Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent education and related work experience.
Experience and Skills
· Over 5 years of fundraising experience in a nonprofit organization, with a demonstrated track record of building, managing, and expanding a resource development program.
· Exceptional communication skills, both in writing and speaking; capable of influencing and engaging a diverse donor base to foster long-term relationships.
· A flexible and adaptable leadership style; able to make a positive impact on both strategic and tactical aspects of fundraising initiatives.
· Capable of working independently without extensive oversight, yet also a collaborative team player who productively interacts with individuals at various levels of seniority within and outside Northaven.
· An energetic, flexible, and collaborative team leader who is proactive and deeply committed to Northaven's mission, vision, and values.
· Demonstrated ability to develop, articulate, and execute annual fundraising plans effectively.
· Outstanding time management skills with a keen attention to detail.
· Strong organizational abilities to oversee fundraising campaigns, events, and projects concurrently.
· Dedicated to maintaining data standards, donor confidentiality, and the respectful handling of sensitive information.
· Proficient with fundraising software and databases for tracking donor information and managing campaigns efficiently. Experience with Little Green Light is advantageous.
· Comprehensive knowledge of the MS Office Suite. Experience with CRM software is beneficial.
· A proven history of initiative in problem-solving and process improvement to bolster effective fundraising efforts.
