What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1:1 Certified Nursing Assistant position at Northbridge Public Schools?
Job Summary:
The 1:1 Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) will work under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) to provide care and support to an individual student with specific medical needs as outlined in the Individualized Health Care Plan (IHCP), Individualized Education Program (IEP), and/or Section 504 Plan. In addition to direct medical support, the CNA will assist the student in accessing the curriculum by providing support within the classroom setting. This includes helping with classroom activities, facilitating mobility and participation, and assisting with instructional tasks as directed by the teacher. The CNA will collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure the student’s medical and educational needs are met in an inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide direct care and implement the student’s Individualized Health Care Plan (IHCP) to
ensure their medical needs are met throughout the school day.
2. Monitor and support students with specific medical needs, such as juvenile diabetes
management, pediatric tracheostomies, and GI tube feedings, as directed by the Registered
Nurse (RN).
3. Engage with all students in a caring and compassionate manner to foster a supportive and
inclusive classroom environment.
4. Accompany the student to the general education classroom and provide necessary medical
and instructional support as outlined in the IHCP, Individualized Education Program (IEP),
and/or Section 504 Plan.
5. Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and support staff to create an optimal learning
environment that accommodates the student’s medical and educational needs.
6. Assist with medically prescribed interventions, including medication administration (per state
regulations) and nursing procedures, under the supervision of the RN.
7. Support the student with daily living activities, including meals, bus transitions, personal care,
and toileting, while promoting independence as appropriate.
8. Maintain accurate and up-to-date health records, including logging daily medical treatments
in both physical and electronic formats, in compliance with school and state regulations.
9. Accompany the student on transportation to and from school.
10. Provide coverage in the school’s health clinic when required

12. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising RN/School Nurse Leader, Building
Principals, and/or Director of Pupil Personnel Services
