The Northbrook Park District is seeking Seasonal Grounds Workers who are available to work through the end of November 2025. We have openings in Grounds Maintenance and Athletic Field Maintenance. Both primarily work outdoors by performing work to maintain the District’s grounds, whether it be our parks or our athletic fields.
Pay & Schedule
$18.00 per hour depending on qualifications. If you have a valid Illinois pesticide license, you will be offered an additional .50 cents on top of the offered hourly rate.
This position is 40 hours per week. Must be able to work various daytime, evening and weekend shifts. The season is approximately March – November.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Perform ground maintenance work tasks such as raking, weeding, mowing, pruning, planting, cultivating and watering grass, trees, flowers and shrubs throughout the Park District outdoor park grounds and athletic fields.
• Operate a variety of grounds equipment including tractors and attachments, and power tools used in landscape projects.
• Perform custodial activities on the outside grounds; picks up trash, litter, and debris.
• Inspect athletic fields, outdoor facilities and grounds for safety, appearance and usability; takes corrective action as needed.
• Assist with the set up and take down of events.
• Perform snow removal including plowing, snow blowing, shoveling and salting of walkways and parking lots.
• Perform ice maintenance activities at outdoor ice rinks.
• May spray chemicals for landscape treatment, if properly licensed.
• May train and coach seasonal landscape maintenance workers throughout day-to-day work assignments (experienced seasonal crew members only as assigned)
• Report any work-related or patron injuries or incidents to supervisor; report unsafe conditions to supervisor and correct if appropriate; complete incident/accident report forms as needed.
• Perform all job tasks in a safe manner.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old. Completion of four years of high school or equivalent. Must possess strong customer service skills and an ability to operate equipment and tools proficiently. Experience in grounds maintenance is preferred. Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license.
Work Conditions: Work is performed primarily outdoors where there is often exposure to inclement weather, odors and toxic agents.

• Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. • Frequently lift and/or move up to and more than 50 pounds; employee is allowed and encouraged to use mechanical or manual assists for lifting above 40 lbs. as a guideline.
• Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate equipment.
