Description
The VP serves as the college's Chief Communications and Brand Officer
Examples of Duties
This position supports student recruitment and retention efforts, fundraising
and alumni relations, academic reputation enhancement, employee
engagement, community relations, and selected executive communications
across earned, owned, social, and paid media.
Leads market research, strategy development, messaging and expression,
editorial development, creative concept development, art direction, multi-
platform integration (print / email / web / app / social / broadcast), issue and
reputation management, news media relations, internal communications, and
emergency communications.
Supervises the work of the Office of Communications and Marketing in
design, photography, videography, social media, content development, web
site and digital asset management, brand development and implementation,
website and app development, news media services, and budgeting and
operations.
Leads efforts to ensure that the College's communication strategies promote
the College's goals for dignity, respect, belonging and humanity of all people
and all members of the campus community to promote a culture and climate
based on mutual understanding.
Establishes goals and objectives of the Office of Communications and
Marketing and is accountable for ensuring that such goals and objectives are
met.
The Vice President will develop, implement and execute an integrated
marketing plan and brand strategy to advance the college's academic
reputation and business goals with particular respect for enrollment,
advancement, and community outreach.
The Vice President communicates and builds brand awareness within the
College community and externally through coordinated efforts and consistent
messaging to both internal and external audiences.
The Vice President strengthens the New College brand awareness by consistently
communicating the College's distinctions to key target audiences internally
and externally.
The Vice President uses metrics and analytics to measure the
effectiveness of the brand. The Vice President oversees the development of
strategic messaging and consistent graphic identity to build the college's
brand in ways that grow enrollment, enhance fundraising, and improve
internal communications.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and / or year of experience
Preferred Qualifications
A master's degree in marketing, public relations, strategic communications, or
planning, or an advanced degree in a related field and eight years of related
experience; or a bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, strategic
communications or planning, and ten years of related experience.
The Vice President must possess a knowledge of metrics and analytics to measure the effectiveness of the
brand and the message. Previous professional experience in higher education
Proven expertise in marketing and communications, integrated marketing in the
academic community. For profit and / or public sector experience will be considered for
a seasoned senior administrator with marketing and communications expertise.
The Vice President will have demonstrated successful experience in increasingly
senior positions where they have been responsible for marketing and communications.
The Vice President will have had experience with internal communication strategies, as
well as expertise in messaging in support of fundraising and enrollment efforts. It is
essential that the Vice President has had responsibility for and an understanding of the
complexity of and strategies for building a brand, and demonstrate the capacity to build
an integrated marketing and communications program across the College and
measure its effectiveness.
The Vice President must have demonstrated experience managing a team and working
in a complex organizational structure. Demonstrated leadership skills, particularly those
focused on building relationships to accomplish goals, are vital.
The Vice President will possess and inspire trust and confidence to create relationships
across the campus community. The Vice President will have the competence,
diplomacy, adaptability, and energy to work with a variety of personalities as well as
the capacity and the savvy to build a team and an organizational construct in support of
the College's marketing objectives. Excellent communication, speaking and writing
skills, and fluency in the language of higher education are essential, as is the capacity
to build long term relationships across all constituencies.
