JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:
Job Summary
This full-time faculty position will support instruction for NTC’s Sign Language Interpreting in Education program in the School of Business and Learning Technologies. The primary purpose of the Sign Language Interpreting in Education faculty is to prepare learners to become American Sign Language interpreters in educational settings and become licensed to work in K-12th grades and to successfully pass the Department of Public Instruction License 0020, Educational Interpreter license following graduation. Educational interpreters are needed to facilitate communication between Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and their teachers and peers throughout the school day, as well as be a valued member of the educational team, performing other duties in the school. The faculty member trains learners to be ready for their career and prepares them for all future licensure and national testing requirements. This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position that is expected to end by June 30, 2026.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.
Teaching & Student Success:
- Facilitate student learning through engaging instructional strategies and methodologies across various modalities, including in-person, online, hybrid and out-of-classroom activities, and mentoring students and peers.
- Adhere to NTC’s academic calendar, Student Connect hours, teaching assignments, post and maintain office hours, and conduct assigned classes for the scheduled length of time in accordance with the faculty contract.
- Assess and evaluate student performance by providing timely feedback and grades, maintaining accurate student records, attendance, and lab/clinical evaluations, in compliance with privacy laws, such as FERPA.
- Develop and maintain course materials including outcome summaries, learning plans, Performance Assessment Tasks (PATs), syllabi, and online Learning Management System templates in the approved College format within designated timelines.
- Select and utilize appropriate learning materials and resources including textbooks, library resources, equipment, and supplies to enhance learning.
- Review, revise, and create curriculum in accordance with NTC academic standards and expectations.
- Assist in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating a new or modified course/certificate/program.
- Stay current and focused on evolving learner needs and educational trends.
- Provide written evaluations upon student’s requests.
College/Program Area Support:
- Maintain program documentation as required by accreditation, program, or clinical site standards.
- Coordinate with instructional support services to address student accommodation and modification needs, fostering an inclusive learning environment for diverse learners.
- Engage and participate in faculty development training, professional day activities, College in-service events, commencement, team time, and other designated College activities.
- Demonstrate and properly operate specialized utility equipment and vehicles specific to the industry.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and drive to practicum sites.
- Actively participate in institutional, advisory and program team and committee meetings to support College initiatives.
- Assist in onboarding and orientation of new full-time, part-time, adjunct faculty, and other employees within their content areas.
- Attend College Open Houses (on-campus and off-campus, set-up and take down) to assist with student recruitment and in support of Student Services activities.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with business and industry partners, community organizations, and K-12 partners to strengthen program connections.
- Serve as Faculty Advisor for the student I-Sign Club.
- Assist, participate, support, and carry out all duties as assigned.
Professional Development:
- Maintain WTCS/FQAs and Higher Learning Commission requirements, accreditation or licensing standards, as applicable to program areas.
- Maintain professional certifications, licensures, and credentials as required by specific program area.
- Remain up-to-date professionally in the area of content expertise and the teaching profession
Minimum Qualifications Required
In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to American Sign Language interpreting. Qualified at time of and throughout employment as an instructor by the Wisconsin Technical College System. Must also meet Higher Learning Commission requirements, accreditation standards, and/or licensing standards where applicable.
Experience: 2 Years
Additional Experience Information: Experience as an educational interpreter in a K-12 setting, community interpreter, or deaf interpreter experience.

Ability to actively listen, discern key information, and respond professionally; ask follow up or clarifying questions to diffuse escalated situations and offer appropriate problem resolution when necessary.

Computer Skills:
Microsoft Office Suite and database information systems (i.e., Excel), Learning Management Systems, Outlook/Email and Calendar systems, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, copier/scanner/printer, phone systems, laptop computer, tablet devices.
Must have one or more of the following licenses: Department of Public Instruction (DPI) License #O020, Department of Safety and Public Service (DSPS) License, Sign Language Interpreter – Intermediate Hearing or above, Sign Language Interpreter – Intermediate Deaf or above.
Must have one or more of the following certifications: National Interpreter Certification (NIC) from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Board of Evaluation for Interpreters (Basic Level or above), Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment – score of 3.5 or above.
Or equivalent qualifications, including a combination of education, certification, and relevant experience.
