Job Description:
The Purchaser of cannabis goods reports to the Purchasing Manager. The Purchaser is responsible for procuring internal and 3rd party/vendor finished goods and materials for packaging, extraction, and manufacturing. Purchasing requires constant evaluation of available inventory, selection of products, desired quality, and margin for manufacturing and resale. The Purchaser maintains the accuracy of all costs of goods procured and ensures that those costs are accurately represented in all required financial reports, POS, and inventory control systems. The Purchaser also works with The Finance and Inventory Receiving teams to ensure timely delivery communication and accurate control of delivery documents and invoices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains an ample supply of inventory available for sale through data-driven reporting and analysis.
- Purchases what is necessary to maintain the agreed-upon targets of days on hand.
- Strictly follows the approved monthly budget for each location. Provides frequent
updates and analysis of spend-to-revenue.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and reports, including, but not limited to, invoice tracking, product costs, and Dutchie accuracy.
- Procures products with company margin targets as the main driver while not sacrificing a desirable menu.
- Works closely with the Store Manager(s), Purchasing Manager, and Marketing Manager to stay current with market trends and source popular and in-demand items for all product categories.
- Frequently attends vendor and industry events throughout the state to enhance partnerships, selection, and procurement pricing.
- Evaluates new products and vendors by attending facility tours and verifying product quality before purchasing new products
- Works directly with vendors to create monthly promotions for the Sapura retail locations and follows up with vendors to redeem credits earned from promotions.
- Maintain vendor pop-up calendar, communication, and execution for all locations.
- Ensure compliance with procurement and all federal, state, and local guidelines regarding the purchase of cannabis and cannabis-related products.
- Other duties assigned.
Additional Requirements:
- A full-time position requiring a minimum of 5 days a week in the office, which will periodically include weekends and evenings.
- 3 years of cannabis industry experience with 2 years in a purchasing/sales-related field, ideally in Michigan.
- Has reliable transportation and is willing to drive throughout Michigan to visit vendors' facilities and events.
- Detail-oriented and good with numbers.
- Strong negotiation skills
- Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Google Suite.
- Able to multitask in a fast-paced environment and manage time effectively.
- Good organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Over 21 years of age with the ability to obtain an MI agent registration card.
- Ability to lift over 40 lbs.
- Ability to perform the following physical tasks: sitting, standing, stooping, stretching, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, performing repetitive motions, and carrying boxes.
