JOB SUMMARY
To organize, direct and sustain the school’s basketball program. This position will involve not only working with and leading the athletes who play the game but also working with and leading a team of coaches that direct the program from grade 9th through grade 12th. The Head Coach serves as a motivational figure who inspires high morale, builds team cohesiveness, develops character, communicates effectively, provides positive reinforcement, and carries forth the school mission.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Leads the development and implementation of program functions and activities in accordance with applicable rules and regulations related to the sport.
- Teaches the desirable traits of character such as persistence, desire to win, teamwork, and cooperation.
- Teaches knowledge and understanding of athletics and of the fundamentals, rules, and strategies of sports.
- Assists in organizing and administering the athletic program so that it is closely integrated and thoroughly coordinated with the general purposes of education.
- Maintains inventory and ensures proper care, maintenance, and storage of all athletic equipment and supplies.
- Ensures that all athletes have parental permission, insurance coverage, and medical examinations.
- Arranges for transportation of injured students to emergency treatment facilities.
- Approves all recommendations for athletic awards.
- Teaches the values of self-discipline, sound physical condition, healthy lifestyle, and cooperation.
- Provides an opportunity for competition on an equal basis for all students.
- Supervises the locker rooms before, during, and after practice sessions.
- Emphasizes safety in teaching techniques and elements of play and thoroughly educates the players in the rules of the game.
- Maintains harmonious relationship with all district employees.
- Ensures transportation arrangements to all athletic events, according to county procedures.
- Promotes interest, skills, and lifelong participation in various physical activities.
- Performs all essential duties and responsibilities of a classroom teacher.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college or university required. Previous experience as a varsity head basketball coach preferred.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to obtain clearance certificate from GaPSC.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Must possess or be willing to obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
SALARY/TERMS/BENEFITS:
1. 205 Day work year.
2. Salary based on certification and experience; placement on the Georgia Annual Salary Schedule and position supplement(s).
