Position Summary Information

Job Goal

This position will serve as both a Student Conduct Officer and as a Care Team (non-clinical) Case Manager for students with at-risk mental health and social support needs through interventions, referrals, and connections to follow-up services. The caseload percentage between Student Conduct and Care will fluctuate depending on community and office needs throughout the year.

Successful candidates should be able to advocate for student success, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, manage a diverse caseload, and effectively refer students to appropriate campus and community resources.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Tasks

The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Student Conduct

Serve as a Conduct Officer. Investigate student conduct complaints; advise complainants and respondents of their rights, responsibilities and options; resolve cases informally when possible and refer cases to conflict resolution services or the formal conduct process as needed; maintain all appropriate files related to assigned cases; follow-ups to ensure that assigned conduct sanctions have been completed. Supervise and monitor the administrative probation of students sanctioned for disciplinary violation of the Code of Conduct.

Resolve very complex and highly sensitive conduct cases. Interview, maintain ongoing communication with, and provide appropriate educational intervention and resource referrals to complainants, respondents, witnesses, and others involved in the student conduct process. Conduct investigations, facilitate student educational conferences, create and assign educational sanctions, and assess student learning. Interact with families, attorneys, and others on behalf of the college as needed. Compose formal letters to students regarding complex and serious issues, and routinely compose detailed documentation on meetings with students, investigation progress, and other case-related information.

Coordinate the organization of the hearing panel and confirms the selection of faculty and staff to this body. Train hearing panel members. Schedule hearing dates and prepare hearing dockets of Reporting Party, Responding Party, and witnesses.

Maintains accurate records of disciplinary sanctions assigned to students and informs them of any delinquency in compliance and/or subsequent action(s). Serve as one of the conduct software administrators and provide training related to this system.

Title IX Deputy Coordinator

Serves as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator. Develop and coordinate sexual and related misconduct prevention and education efforts for students and staff. Collaborates closely with the Title IX Coordinator, other Title IX Deputies & investigators. Assists in the periodic review and updating of Title IX related policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

Serve as the Chair of the Care Team which is composed of representatives from campus counseling, disability services, advising and risk management. Communicate with faculty and staff who express Care-related concerns regarding students. Lead weekly Care Team meetings and convene the group in the event of a case needing immediate attention. As a member of the team, play a part in the assessment of student needs and/or risk. Develop appropriate action plans to help minimize risk/harm and that support student success. Maintain a system for following up with students who have been referred to campus or community resources.

Serve as the primary Care Team Case Manager with students whose reported behaviors have been identified as potentially a risk of harm to themselves, others, or property. Build positive relationships with students (prospective and current) and assist with process support and resolution coordination of issues that may hinder their success. Communicate with staff and families or designated emergency contacts regarding emergencies, including hospitalizations and suicide attempts, to help facilitate a successful return to campus when issues are appropriately resolved.

Manage Care Team protocols (Behavior Intervention & Threat Assessment), training, communication, and outreach efforts including presentations to faculty, staff, and students about Student Conduct and the Care Team and related processes. Disseminate relevant information to Care Team members.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree preferred.

Demonstrated understanding of regulations, policies, processes and procedures.

Experience In Post-secondary Education With Community College Experience Preferred.

Experience working with Maxient or other reporting software.

Experience working with Student Conduct.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Title IX Coordinator certification preferred.

Civil Rights Investigator certification preferred.

Essential Functions

Review all sex offender registrant requests. If eligible to be on campus, develop and monitor a safety plan.

Serve as a resource and engage in special projects, events, or tasks as assigned by the Vice President of Student Services in support of divisional, organizational or campus needs.

Participate in professional development activities to enhance relevant student conduct and student support skills.

Represent Student Services at both internal and external meetings and committees and uphold College policies and values.

Actively collaborate on retention and persistence intervention strategies.

Leverage data analysis and maintenance to generate actionable intelligence, prepare reports that drive strategic decision-making, and develop targeted interventions and resources that support student success.
