Supports an integrated enrollment model for students through the recruitment, enrollment, retention, completion, and placement processes and ensures a high standard of customer service.
Duties and Responsibilities
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Build a positive mentoring relationship with students and strive to resolve issues that may impede student success.
Provide academic and career advising for current and potential students at NICC.
Evaluate assessment test scores, including ACCUPLACER, ACT, ALEKS, and COMPASS to ensure appropriate course placement.
Advise students on program requirements, sequencing of courses, and how to interpret degree audits to stay on track for graduation.
Assist students with the registration process.
Evaluate and monitor student academic progress and choices.
Make students aware of and refer them to college services and resources to promote academic success.
Assist students with transfer planning and opportunities as needed.
Meet and communicate regularly with current advisees and accepted students to provide information, resources, and support as they progress through the enrollment process at NICC.
Stay current with curriculum changes, graduation requirements, and all College policies, and be able to explain policies and procedures to students.
Provide advising information for prospective, new, and current students at College functions as requested.
Explain how to apply for and finalize financial aid as well as tuition and fee payment options.
Monitor and assist students who are not meeting financial aid satisfactory academic progress.
Help connect students to job search and resume writing resources.
Work cooperatively with college administration and faculty as a student advocate.
Promote student growth and development and reinforce student self-direction and self-sufficiency.
Participate in professional development and training to enhance advising skills.
Attend department/division meetings and serve on College committees as requested.
Uphold policies, procedures, and values of the College.
Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the NICC enrollment process, advising for program entry and completion requirements, and sequencing of course requirements to stay on track. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Knowledge of office procedures and protocols. Basic knowledge of career planning, financial aid, and placement processes. Ability to navigate software utilized in aforementioned processes. Understanding and ability to work with a diverse student population.
Essential Functions
GENERAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH OR WITHOUT A REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing and able to travel.
