Position Information

We are seeking a strategic and people-centered Director of Human Resources to lead initiatives that support a positive, equitable, and productive work environment for approximately 700 staff. As a key member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet, this role plays a vital part in shaping our district’s culture, strengthening our workforce, and ensuring our students are supported by exceptional staff.

This is a 1.0 FTE position (260 days). Starting salary will be determined based on applicable experience. This position is fully benefit eligible, offering competitive medical, dental, life and retirement plans and generous paid time off. This position is also eligible for an annual performance incentive.

Nature Of Work

Incumbents are responsible for providing leadership and direction for assigned department, staff, programs, or functions. Responsibilities may include: directing professional staff and departmental operations and administration; overseeing departmental or program budgets and funds; developing strategies, policies, and procedures; and working with multiple departments to achieve strategic goals.

Typical Class Responsibilities

  • Develops strategies, policies, and procedures for assigned department, staff, programs, or functions which includes developing, approving, planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, systems, standards, and service offerings; works with multiple departments to achieve strategic goals; and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws, rules, regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Provides administrative, operational, and leadership direction to assigned functions or departments, which may include: serving as a strategic advisor; assigning projects and objectives; conducting performance evaluations; developing, motivating, and training employees; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Seeks and manages collaborative efforts with the Superintendent, the District, internal departments, and/or other interested parties to gain support for and/or advance District priorities.
  • Oversees departmental or program budgets and funds; identifies and approves expenditures; reviews financial statements; manages financial operations; maintains cost monitoring and control procedures; assures the efficient and economical use of department fiscal, human, facility, and time resources.
  • Develops and maintains internal and external relationships; facilitates, leads, and/or participates in meetings, proceedings, and committees; represents the department at meetings and conferences; serves as a liaison between the Superintendent, the District, school leaders, departments, external organizations, the general public, and other agencies.
  • Prepares, maintains, reviews, and/or updates complex reports, contracts, proposals, and other materials.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Functional Specific Responsibilities

  • Serves as a key member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet, contributing to district-wide planning, strategic initiatives, and decision-making.
  • Leads the full scope of human resources operations, including recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, leave management, and worker’s compensation.
  • Leads efforts to recruit, develop, and retain a high-quality and diverse workforce, including oversight of the district’s teacher apprenticeship program and other Grow Your Own pathways.
  • Oversees the district's staffing process including contract renewals, assignment and transfer of staff, application of seniority, layoff provisions, and continuing contract rights.
  • Oversees the district’s performance management process, job classification, and compensation structures to ensure fairness and effectiveness.
  • Partners with district leadership to design and implement comprehensive onboarding and orientation experiences for all new staff.
  • Leads negotiations with all bargaining groups and oversees the implementation of all contract settlements.
  • Interprets and advises on district policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Conducts and oversees employee investigations and administers appropriate and consistent disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Serves as the district’s Human Rights Officer and Title IX Coordinator, ensuring timely and appropriate handling of all discrimination and harassment complaints.
  • Regularly reviews and recommends updates to School Board policies related to human resources and employee matters.
  • Co-leads the district’s Wellness Advisory Committee and oversees wellness programming designed to support employee health and well-being.

Training And Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in assigned field of expertise; and 8 years related experience.

SHRM-SCP or SPHR Certification

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
