What are the responsibilities and job description for the Human Resources Specialist position at Northeast Metro 916 Intermediate School District?
This position is a 1.0 FTE, year round position (260 days/year). The hourly rate range for this position is $25/hr to $35/hr, starting hourly rate is based on applicable experience. This position is fully benefit eligible, please see attached premium sheet for details.
Nature of Work
The first level in the Human Resources Series is responsible for supporting human resources functions for union and non-union positions including benefits administration, leave management and worker’s compensation in compliance with all state and federal laws.
Typical Class Responsibilities
- Assists in the resolution of process and/or procedural inquiries from employees; implements and monitors the employee paid leave system, including absence verification and attendance tracking.
- Administers an assigned human resource's function or program such as leave of absences and FMLA notice process; Gathers required documentation, reviews for completion and submits for approval; files and monitors worker compensation claims, alerts administrators of medical information and status to support “return to work” process.
- Administers benefit plans including health, dental, life, disability and retirement plans; communicates plan information with employees and processes enrollments, terminations and open enrollment changes.
- Processes personnel changes that result in payroll changes including new hires, benefits, transfers and terminations.
- Conducts staff training and new employee orientation on benefits, paid time off and procedures in the employee handbook; updates content on staff intranet and in the employee handbook.
- Prepares reports such as probationary lists, excessive absence reports, performance evaluation reports, and position assignment reports; recommends new solutions to problems and recommends solutions to be considered.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Training and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related area, and 2 years of experience in related HR function.

Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
