SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The person who assumes this position will provide support and assistance to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities so they may overcome barriers and gain access to community employment. Will be involved in “person-centered” planning meetings with individuals and will play an integral role in facilitating individuals’ dreams, desires, and needs related to community employment. Will encourage individualsto play an active role in his/her own job development, job selection, and follow-along services. Responsibilities range from assisting individuals to recognize their employment interests and capabilities to facilitating specialized job development and support services. Development and oversight of individuals’ micro enterprises including marketing is also essential. Will carry out special assigned duties as required by the Community Employment Coordinator to enhance the delivery of Community Employment Support Services.
Rate of Pay: $17.21-$24.27
FLSA: Non-Exempt/Full-Time
Reports To: Community Employment Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school graduate or equivalent required.
Experience: Two years of experience in working with people with developmental/mental disabilities preferred. Must possess ability to maintain favorable relationships with consumers, families, providers, employers and the business community. Good communication and computer skills. Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record as determined by the agency. Lived experience with mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders valued.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrates effective coordination of community employment services that adhere to “person-centered planning” through collaboration with individuals and/or parents/guardians, Case Managers, clinicians, and other community organizations.
- Promote community employment for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and maintain favorable relationships with employers in the community.
- Offer individuals opportunities to explore employment options available in the community and develop plans to procure competitive employment.
- Embrace and practice the philosophy and tools of gentle teaching.
- Provide families/providers/employers with information about community employment services.
- Assist in the maintenance of case records as required, i.e., progress notes, data recording, billing forms, and correspondence.
- Provide training/consultation/supervision to job coaches and other support staff.
- Support individuals with specialized transportation needs.
- Assist the community employment coordinator in efforts to increase public awareness and acceptance of inclusion in employment.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Provide follow along support for individuals and employers.
- Computer skills and the ability to document effectively and efficiently.
- May be required to work an unusual work schedule including evenings and weekends.
- Demonstrates knowledge of universal precautions, standards of practice including but not limited to confidentiality and recipient rights, and emergency protocol.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs other related duties as required.
- May be requested to be involved in the Board’s continuous quality improvement program.
- May be required to provide own transportation while performing agency-related duties.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job. Ability to walk, bend, stand, sit, lift up to 25 pounds, with or without assistance, stretch/reach, hear, see, hand/finger dexterity and drive.
