What You'll Do:

The Disability and Mental Health Supervisor is responsible for ensuring all federal and state requirements for disability and mental health services are fulfilled by the program. This position performs ongoing monitoring of program trends, seeks out resources and evaluates service delivery for continuous improvement. The Disabilities and Mental Health Specialist possesses skills that include a thorough knowledge of early childhood development, disabilities, and mental health coupled with an understanding of family dynamics and relationship building on an individual/family, provider, and community level. This position supervises Mental Health Behavioral Specialists and works closely with the program’s Mental Health Consultant/Trauma Specialist.

  • Oversee disability and mental health services to children and families to ensure delivery according to Head Start Program Performance Standards and Great Start to Readiness Program requirements;
  • Provide ongoing tracking, analysis and follow up of disability and mental health service requirements;
  • Analyze data to develop results-driven quality improvement plans;
  • Develop and continuously improve content area ensuring integrated and comprehensive system of service for effectiveness;
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures, schedules and timelines for content area in accordance with funding requirements;
  • Continuously communicate and collaborate with other Content Area Specialists, Leadership and staff to ensure coordination of services;
  • Monitor outsourced mental health service contracts including deliverables and documentation;
  • Supervision of Mental Health Behavioral Specialists;
  • Function as Mental Health Specialist during position vacancy;
  • Attend meetings and trainings related to assigned area of responsibility;
  • Attend IEP meetings as needed;
  • Ensure Mental Health Behavioral Specialists facilitate regularly scheduled Mental Health Group Consultations in all Areas;
  • Promote communication and collaboration between Mental Health Behavioral Specialists and Community Mental Health and other counseling or therapy service providers;
  • Promote communication and collaboration between NEMCSA staff and Special Education Directors;
  • Support mental health staff regarding classroom and family situations requiring additional guidance;
  • Stay informed of current Mental Health Services policy and procedure and provide assistance as necessary;
  • Monitor trainings provided by mental health staff including topics about social-emotional development and young children’s mental health needs;
  • Oversee mental health services to children and families to ensure delivery according to ethical mental health standards; maintain highest degree of confidentiality and uphold Standards of Conduct at all times.
  • Oversee and monitor services to children with disabilities;

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position supervises Mental Health Specialists.

Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education or related field with additional training in psychology, social work, counseling or related field and five years’ experience in Human Services or Counseling work with children under six years of age and/or high-risk families; and experience in an early childhood/educational setting. Supervisory experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Employees in this position must possess reliable transportation and a valid driver license and have reliable transportation and vehicle insurance in compliance with the State of Michigan.
