What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Sustainability Coordinator position at NORTHEAST MICHIGAN COMMUNITY SERVICE AGENCY INC.?
Summary of Duties:
Works to provide advocacy for low to moderate income eligible individuals and families relative to their financial repair and stability, work toward asset building capability, and credit repair resulting in individual and family self- sufficiency. This position will also be largely responsible for data tracking, reporting and intake for program services. Some weekend and evening meetings as well as occasional job-related travel both within the 12-county service area and to other locations for meetings, workshops, trainings and/or conferences may be necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
- Provides intake, case management, follow up and ensures financial education and tracking requirements are met for all participants enrolled in assigned programs as
- Provide mentoring for individuals who are accessing financial assistance programs to ensure proper paperwork has been completed and returned, as well as to schedule the individuals for participation in available financial literacy workshops/sessions.
- Responsible for required programmatic reporting and client file content for assigned/funded
- Maintains program databases to ensure accuracy of required data collections and input for the completion of required programmatic reporting and
- Work with the Financial Coach to ensure that all client files are complete and all required program reporting is conducted in a timely
- Works with the Financial Coach to provide and track follow-up contact with all participants, including specific matters discussed in an individual counseling
- Create and maintain partnerships with financial institutions, real estate agencies, lending institutions, financial industry professionals, and community-based organizations to ensure necessary coaching is provided to new home buyers, those at risk of foreclosure and those in need of financial literacy programming and self-sufficiency
- Maintains a list of available financial agencies and programs as a resource for participant referral as needed.
- Conducts group and individual educational workshops/sessions include topics such as credit and debt management, savings, budgeting, special assistance programs for homeownership; money management, credit repair and maintenance, banking, avoiding predatory lenders, mortgage loans, and
- Provides different types of counseling appointments throughout the service area as
- Assist in the dissemination of information regarding assigned programs and establish/maintain working relationships and networking with community organizations and groups relative to those
- Attend community interagency service teams/meetings such as Policy Advisory Committee and Human Service Coordinating Council meetings across the service area as necessary and present agency and program specific information to
- Represents the organization in various community forums and conducts program presentations as needed.

Education and Experience:
Associate’s degree plus credits in accounting, business, or other related field with 1 year experience in personal financial education, home buyer education, foreclosure intervention counseling or related work required. Prefer knowledge of the banking industry such as the mortgage or foreclosure process.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Employees in this position must possess reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. HUD Housing Counseling Certification must be obtained within 6 months.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret (reports, regulations, periodicals). Write (reports, business correspondence and manuals). Present information and respond to questions.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
