Summary
Northeast Mississippi Habitat for Humanity (NEMS-HfH) is a Christian-based, not-for-profit community service organization whose mission and ministry are to join with low-income families and other community partners to provide homeownership opportunities and build communities of hope as an expression of God's love.
The Executive Director is responsible and accountable for the effective and efficient Christ-centered financial, operational, and administrative management of NEMS-HfH.
The Executive Director provides overall leadership by following the policies, objectives, and directions of the Board of Directors to promote its vision, direction, health, and growth.
Position Description
Reports to: President of the Board of Directors (directly) and to the Board of Directors (in general)
Job Classification: Full-time, Exempt
Supervisory Responsibility: Yes
Hours: Varied, flexible. Some weekends and evenings are required.
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and education.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred, but commensurate experience may be acceptable.
- At least 5 years of experience in not-for-profit administration, public relations, business, marketing, fundraising, or other relevant management experience preferred.
- Experience working with housing and/or serving those persons who are economically disadvantaged.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to inspire support and engagement.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and QuickBooks.
- Fluent in using social media platforms.

- Ability to obtain Mortgage Lender certification.
Responsibilities
1. General Administration
- Manage all aspects of the organization's operations.
- Oversee implementation of affiliate policies and procedures.
- Oversee proper maintenance of records and files to ensure confidentiality, security, and legal compliance.
- Ensure that the communication of relevant issues flows among all groups.
- Ensure the organization adheres to government regulations and HfH policies.
- Oversight of staff.
2. Financial Management
- Maintain and develop sound financial practices.
- Prepare the yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manage the affiliate's resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and policies.
- Direct and coordinate the formulation of financial programs to provide funding for new or continuing operations, including oversight of all fundraising efforts.
- Interact with the accountants to ensure the completion of annual audits, monthly financial reports, and other financial activities.
- Collaborate with the Investment Committee to protect invested funds and mitigate risks.
- Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its mission.
- Correctly and timely remit required payments to HfH.
- Ensure all accounts receivables/payables are appropriately received, documented, and paid on time.
3. Loan Management
- Work with the mortgage servicer and/or with homeowners on homeowner payment issues when necessary, including but not limited to delinquencies, bankruptcies, forbearances, loss mitigation, and foreclosures.
- Serve as Qualified Loan Originator for all new loans.
- Promptly and diligently work with closing attorney to ensure all disclosures and loan documents are timely prepared and completed prior to closing.
4. Board Support, Committee Support and Guidance
- Work with the Board President to prepare an agenda for board meetings and provide reports of all activities to the Board.
- Assist the Board of directors in making fundamental decisions, preparing strategic plans, and creating/maintaining policies.
- Communicate with the Board of Directors clearly and succinctly about the organization's activities.
- As appropriate, assist the committee chairs and facilitate communication among committees, staff, volunteers, and the Board.
- As appropriate, attend committee meetings and assist committee members in completing their duties.
5. Community and Public Relations
- Represent the organization as the primary spokesperson to companies, organizations, churches, and civic groups.
- Establish and nurture media relationships.
- Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with volunteers, home sponsors, partner families, community groups, and other organizations.
- Maintain and regularly utilize social media platforms.
6. Resource Development
- Execute resource development plan, including grant applications, corporate sponsorships, and any special event planning.
- Identify and frequently cultivate individual and corporate donors.
- Explore the feasibility of establishing a ReStore.
- Plan and execute special events.
- Submit required grant evaluation reports.
- Develop resources, research funding sources, and write proposals to various organizations.
7. Construction Management
- Work with the Construction Supervisor in identifying and ordering construction materials and identifying subcontractors.
- Monitor expenditures made by the Construction Supervisor.
- Maintain a close working relationship with the Construction Supervisor, including working knowledge of site progress.
- Knowledge of the house construction process, safety procedures, and the use of equipment and materials.
- Knowledgeable in local, state, and federal construction regulations including but not limited to permitting and safety.
- Identify and acquire sites suitable for future builds.
8. Volunteer Management
- Identify the need and recruit volunteers for the agreed-upon construction schedule.
- Work with the Construction Supervisor to schedule volunteers for construction projects.
9. Homeowner Relations
- Provide leadership in the following areas of family selection: marketing, intake of applications, credit and income review, home visits, and board approval.
- Ensure financial education and good neighbor classes are scheduled and available for clients/partners.
- Maintain confidential employee and partner applicant records for the organization and its subsidiaries.
- Communicate affiliate policies and expectations clearly with clients/partners.
- Maintain monthly communications with clients/partners.
- Ensure completion of necessary education and sweat equity requirements according to program policy.
10. Other
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment Criminal Background Check and Sexual Offender Check.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and breath-alcohol screen.
- Perform other reasonable tasks as requested and/or required.
- Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
- Must be proficient in basic math skills.
- Must possess basic computer skills, including the use of email, word processing, and spreadsheets.
