Northeast New Jersey Legal Services (NNJLS) seeks a Communications Manager. The Communications Manager will be responsible for planning, managing, and executing all aspects of communicating the firm’s mission, policies, programs, initiatives, and priorities to internal and external constituencies and stakeholders. If successful, the Communications Manager’s impact will bring the NNJLS story to life in a clear and compelling way to deepen external engagement, increase our visibility, and drive NNJLS’ growth. The Communications Manager must interact regularly with staff to stay updated on all aspects of the firm; staying ahead of events and issues related to our mission.
NNJLS is a non-profit public interest law firm with over 100 employees providing free legal services to low-income, senior, and disabled residents of Hudson, Bergen, and Passaic Counties, New Jersey. NNJLS’s staff of highly experienced and dedicated attorneys and paralegals provides a wide variety of civil legal assistance and advocacy for those most in need of legal representation such as victims of domestic violence, tenants facing unfair and arbitrary eviction, residents seeking US citizenship, seniors victimized by unscrupulous creditors, and individuals facing many other types of civil legal matters. Responsibilities include:
· Producing written content across internal and external platforms.
o Write compelling and uniform copy that will resonate and grab the attention of various audiences through email, social media, presentations, and other marketing materials.
o Translate program data and research into compelling narratives for external pieces including press releases, speeches, and reports.
o Build, refine, write, and disseminate key messaging and talking points; serve as preliminary editor for all NNJLS written materials across units.
· Managing the design, composition, production, and publication of NNJLS brochures, pamphlets, newsletters, information packets, and other publications, using our branding and voice.
· Helping to shape and implement NNJLS’s visual and digital presence.
o Manage all of NNJLS’ digital channels including website, email marketing, and social media platforms.
o Develop and maintain NNJLS branding guide and templates.
o Create, organize and maintain robust digital asset library (including photos and video), either through personal skills or the effective sourcing and management of outside contractors.
· Serving as point of contact for media inquiries.
· Analyzing the effectiveness of our communications through analytics and providing recommendations.
Qualifications: At least 2 years of communications experience in a professional setting. A natural storyteller with impeccable copywriting skills.The successful applicant will have excellent and versatile communication skills, have the ability to lead projects, work collaboratively with staff, and have strong organizational skills. Computer proficiency is required.
Preferred: A degree in communications, marketing, or a related field. Understanding of basic design principles with a modern aesthetic eye with the ability to help craft beautiful, effective, and immersive experiences across print, web, mobile, email, and social media. Up-to-date with industry leading software and technologies (for example, Adobe Creative Suite). Knowledge of graphic design tools and ability to design materials is a plus. Applicants should have an understanding of the role of civil legal aid in addressing issues of poverty and social justice.
Location: Based in our Jersey City office with the ability to work a hybrid schedule. This position requires regular travel to outreach events and to NNJLS offices in Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic Counties. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for these responsibilities.
Salary/Benefits: NNJLS provides an attractive salary for this position starting at $56,000 commensurate with experience, and a generous fringe benefits package including but not limited to vacation, sick, 14 paid holidays, comprehensive health/dental/life insurance, 10% employer contribution to a 401(a) retirement plan, and a voluntary 403(b) retirement plan.
