General Duties
Under the supervision of the Appointment and Referral Supervisor, the Referral Coordinator exchanges information between NEON and hospitals and all consultants. Ensures that required documentation is completed and submitted in a timely manner, receives all referrals and follows through to completion of all aspects of scheduling from all NEON sites. Completes all tasks in NextGen EHR, obtains approval for HMO's referrals, when needed, and faxes referrals to the hospital or consultants office. Notifies patients regarding any special instructions. Sends any outside agency forms completed by NEON to scanning.
Education
High School Diploma or Certificate of High School equivalence (GED).
Minimum Qualifications
1. Applicants must have 1-2 years of experience in referrals, medical, or health insurance.
2. Applicants must have working and demonstrated knowledge of Medical Terminology.
3. Applicants must be able to type 35 wpm and utilize a personal computer. Must have basic computer skills.
4. Applicants must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications and have experience with internal, mail or database management programs.
5. Applicants must have the ability to learn and operate NextGen practice management software applications.
6. Applicants must have knowledge of commercial and government funded health care programs.
Technical Skills
1. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
2. Must have ability to make sound judgement independently.
3. Must be able to exhibit tact and diplomacy and the ability to work cooperatively with all departments, providers, referrals hospital staff and consultants, as a team member in meeting corporate objectives.
4. Must demonstrate maturity, flexibility and the ability to work with patients and fellow staff members, in an effective manner with sensitivity for diverse population groups.
5. Must be proficient in basic PC functions.
