What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Coordinator position at Northeast Orthopaedic Alliance PLLC?
The Surgical Coordinator Lead provides services that is patient focused, timely, accessible, based on ethical practice, respectful of patient rights, responsive to other care providers, current with insurers’ expectations and reflective of the evolution of health policy and medical practice. The lead directly oversees a team of Surgical Coordinators and may review the SC work and provide comments, feedback and tips to help them improve and may complete daily responsibilities
Specifically the Surgical Coordinator Lead is responsible for timely processing of the following administrative responsibilities:
- Sets weekly schedule for Patient Care Coordinators for Waltham/Dedham/Boston/Whittier
- Facilitates coverage for SC absences/vacations and Training of new SC’s
- Assists in reviewing SC candidate resumes as needed
- Clinical Inbox monitoring
- Collaborate with Project coordinator
- Maintains clinical task inbox and emails
- Schedules surgeries according to physician’s blocked time and site guidelines
- Provides coverage in checkout when physician is in clinic
- Coordinates all durable medical equipment needs for patient pre-, peri- and
post-operatively
- Ensures all necessary authorizations are in place for upcoming surgeries
- Provides patient with all necessary instructions, disclosures and literature for surgery
- Provides physician with all patient medical records according to his/her protocol for
upcoming cases
- Manages and templates provider's daily schedule for clinics, surgery, meetings and
- vacations
- Schedules routine office appointments, diagnostic testing, labs and referrals to various
providers
- Heavy phone interaction with patients and insurance companies.
- Facilitates peer to peer discussions between the provider and insurance companies.
- Completes disability/attending physician forms
- Scans documents into patient’s electronic charts
- Coverage for other coordinators who may be off
- Ensures all radiological results are in place for upcoming surgeries and appointments
- Travel involved between all BSSC office locations.
- Some assistance in renewal of provider licensure
- Submits work comp surgical requests to carriers
- Tracks missed dictations
- Performs other related duties and cross-trains as assigned by the Surgical Coordinator
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Knowledge of medical billing/collection practice
- Knowledge of business office procedures
- Knowledge of basic medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices
- Ability to operate a computer, computer software, and basic office equipment
- Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system
- Skilled in answering a telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
- Must be well organized and detail-oriented
