SUMMARY
The Tax Clerk position will support the tax department in ensuring compliance with local, state and federal tax regulations applicable to a multi-state, multi-location grocery store chain. This role involves assisting with tax filings, processing of tax payments, assisting with audits, as well as, preparation of journal entries and related account reconciliations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, excels with complex spreadsheets, has analytical skills and the ability to make judgements independently according to company policy.
Position can be located in Buffalo or Schenectady, NY
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Gather and analyze data necessary to prepare and file sales and use tax returns in multiple states and localities.
- Assist in the preparation of the property tax filings and ensure timely payment of bills.
- Respond to tax inquiries from the internal team, vendors and tax authorities in relation to (but not limited to) Resale and Capital Improvement certificates, Bakery donations, company EINs or W-9 requests.
- Assist in calendar year end fringe benefit calculations and informational return data gathering and preparation.
- Reconcile tax related accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Monitor changes in tax rates and laws and ensure communication to those impacted.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent performance reviews.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, data analytics skills and ability to work with large amount of data.
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills to manage multiple deadlines and transactions.
- Strong communication skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate’s degree in accounting, finance or tax (preferred but not required)
- 2 years of related experience
