Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the BSN Lab Assistant assists with the preparation and clean-up of the Nursing Skills Laboratories and human simulators and maintains related supplies.
Job Duties
- Comply with OSHA and TOSHA requirements and regulations.
- Assist with human simulators including setting up software and learning materials, setting up the learning modules, and any additional training.
- Assure equipment and supplies are available in the Nursing Skills Laboratories.
- Inventory all lab supplies at the end of each semester and report to the Director of Nursing supplies needing to be reordered to meet the curricular needs of students.
- Update the Lab Manual after inventory and when stocking orders.
- Assemble and disassemble demonstration items needed for faculty and students prior to scheduled lab instruction time.
- Organize, clean, and maintain Nursing Skills Laboratories.
- Meet a minimum of two times a semester with Nursing Faculty utilizing the lab to identify future or needed supplies to advance and promote student learning.
- Establish communication with the Nursing Faculty for routine cleaning of the lab.
- Assure safety of equipment by storing equipment in locked cabinets at the end of each skills session.
- Assist the Director of Nursing and Nursing Faculty with identifying required supplies for student clinical bags annually.
- Update Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) as needed.
- Complete other assignments as directed by supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited institution
- Current and valid Tennessee or compact state license as a registered nurse
- Two years nursing experience, including recent experience that demonstrates current clinical competency and up-to-date nursing skill sets
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience
- Conversational ability or fluency in a second language
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Technology Skills: MS Office suite; videoconferencing software; digital records management systems; general operating systems and data information systems
- Ability to work with a students who represent a wide range of academic ability
