What are the responsibilities and job description for the ECEAP Lead Teacher position at Northeast Washington Educational Service District?

The job of ECEAP lead teacher is done for the purpose of planning and implementing appropriate lesson plans that meet individual and group needs, ensuring that each family receives a home visit determined by program model, encouraging parent involvement in the program, documenting child progress/activities/outcomes, addressing specific needs of family and child, and maintaining an environment that is physically, socially, and emotionally safe and healthy.
 
This position reports to the director, Center for Early Childhood Services.

This position serves Creekside Elementary School. This position is full time (40 hours per week) following the typical school calendar.
  • Observes and assesses each child's developmental level for the purpose of documenting progress and working with parents to identify child's focus areas.
  • Plans and implements children's curriculum based on assessments and child development knowledge while achieving individual goals and objectives.
  • Designs a developmentally appropriate learning environment for the purpose of providing individualized skill building opportunities for children three to five years old.
  • Implements and supervises developmentally appropriate learning activities to ensure individual and group learning goals are addressed and progress is monitored.
  • Builds positive relationships with children.
  • Plans guidance strategies for children that are individualized, consistent, and developmentally appropriate for the purpose of ensuring all children can be supported and successful.
  • Involves parents for the purpose of supporting their role of first and most important teacher and to partner with them to provide high quality early childhood learning experiences.
  • Acts as a liaison (e.g. family, community, school district, and social service agencies, etc.) for the purpose of meeting the individual needs of students and families.
  • Advises appropriate staff members, classroom team, and/or families (e.g. child's needs, observations, changes in family situations, etc.) for the purpose of developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing individual classroom goals.
  • Assists in supervision of paraprofessionals, childcare staff, and volunteers (e.g. interactions with children, personnel functions, etc.) for the purpose of providing guidance, training, and/or encouraging their participation in planning, curriculum development, and classroom activities.
  • Attends various educational workshops, seminars, in-services, etc. for the purpose of maintaining professional knowledge.
  • Conducts child educational focused home visits for the purpose of ensuring that each family gets a home visit on a schedule determined by program model and providing information and resources to the family regarding child education and development.
  • Contributes to the team (e.g. home visitors, teachers, special services staff, and supervisor, etc.) for the purpose of defining and clarifying roles and expectations with coworkers and cooperating with other program staff to maintain program quality.
  • Coordinates and manages the childcare facility and/or preschool classroom in the absence of the program coordinator or director for the purpose of providing continued management and coordination in meeting the needs of the program.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform activities for the purpose of providing an effective program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Instructs children and parents (e.g. nutrition, self-care, social, motor skills, language skills, etc.) for the purpose of optimizing development of each child and helping to enhance parenting skills.
  • Monitors children's activities (e.g. classroom, snacks/lunch, playground, etc.) for the purpose of providing for the safety and welfare of children.
  • Plans classroom activities for the purpose of creating developmentally appropriate lesson plans to meet individual and group needs.
  • Prepares teaching materials and related reports (e.g. classroom activities, individual child observations, program records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting child activities as described in the work plan.
  • Monitors and oversees food handling and service and provides orientation and ongoing training as needed for all staff involved in food handling service.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

 SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include
  • adhering to safety practices,
  • operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications,
  • planning and managing projects, and
  • preparing and maintaining accurate records.
 
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios, read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, present information to others, and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes
  • concepts of grammar and punctuation, 
  • stages of child development,
  • age appropriate activities,
  • health standards and hazards, and
  • safety practices and procedures.
 
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and events, often gather, collate, and classify data, and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances, analyze data utilizing defined but different processes, and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and groups and work with a variety of data. In working with others, problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation, and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:

  • working as part of a team,
  • meeting deadlines and schedules,

  • working with constant interruptions.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods, directing other persons within a small work unit, and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the organization's services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 15% sitting, 35% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under some hazardous conditions.

Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired

Education

Applicant must meet one of the following education requirements:

  • An associate or higher degree with the equivalent of 30 college quarter credits in early childhood education. These 30 credits may be included in the degree or in addition to the degree
  • A valid Washington State teaching certificate with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education (Pre-K-Grade 3) or Early Childhood Special Education
  • If the successful applicant does not meet the above requirements, NEWESD 101 will assist in developing a plan to help the applicant meet the requirements. 

Continuing Education/Training

State Training and Registry System (STARS)

Complete a minimum of 15 hours of professional development per year, such as workshops or classes, but not including individual mentoring.

Certificates & Licenses

Maintain a current pediatric CPR/first aid certificate

Maintain a current Washington State Department of Health Food Worker Card

Disaster plans and emergency procedures training

Universal precautions for prevention of transmission of bloodborne pathogens training

Preventing, identifying, and reporting child abuse and neglect training

Valid driver's license and required auto insurance

Reliable personal transportation

Clearances

Mantoux tuberculosis (TB) skin test clearance

Show proof of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunization or proof of immunity in accordance RCW 43.216.690

WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance (at employee's expense)
