NABA, a not-for-profit organization, is seeking an Accountant to provide support to the Controller and for various general accounting, cost accounting, and inventory management activities. Accounting experience in a Manufacturing, Operations or Warehouse environment is required. Experience with Sage accounting software is highly preferred; strong Microsoft Excel skills are required. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, display a proactive approach, work in a team environment, work independently as needed, and identify/solve problems is critical. Must demonstrate a shared commitment to NABA’s mission, vision, values, and culture.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day accounting functions as determined by Controller, including bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, rehabilitation revenue and agency billings, inventory, restricted assets tracking, and more. Provide backup support for accounts payable.
- Analyze, maintain, reconcile, and prepare journal entries for various balance sheet and income statement accounts, as determined by Controller.
- Support the month-end financial closing process to ensure the timely and accurate creation of Financial Statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, support schedules).
- Support the annual financial audit process with outside audit firm.
- Support the annual fiscal year departmental and program budgeting process, including the monitoring of timelines for completion.
- Provide financial reporting support for Grant funding proposal budgets.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Cost Accounting and Inventory Management
- Support Controller, Manufacturing and Warehouse functions to ensure accurate perpetual on-hand item inventory valuation (item quantities and average unit costs). Key activities include: gross margin and cost of goods sold analysis; inventory variance analysis; standard unit cost maintenance; purchase and stocking unit of measure accuracy; bill of materials accuracy; cycle counting and annual physical inventory support.
- Support Business Development function through product line margin analysis, cost variance analysis, and price increase submission forms for state and federal agencies.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Strong knowledge of practices and principles of accounting and finance management.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software such as Sage100 (MAS90). Ability to utilize Microsoft Excel and accounting software to automate routine accounting tasks and greatly improve department efficiency.
- Ability to analyze financial data, develop reports, and make recommend decisions based on data and forecasting.
- Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills and business acumen.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and juggle multiple projects with attention to detail and accuracy, while adhering to deadlines.
- Maintain positive working relationship with supervisor, co-workers, and other departmental staff.
Education and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
- Minimum 4 years’ accounting and financial statement experience in a Manufacturing, Operations, or Warehouse environment is required.
