Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Medical Biller and Coder to join our dynamic Gastroenterology (GI) practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical billing and coding and be ready to contribute to a reputable independent practice serving Northeastern Pennsylvania. It is our goal to provide exceptional service to our patients and community while fostering a positive team experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately code and bill medical procedures and services performed in our GI practice and surgery center.
- Ensure all billing is compliant with current healthcare regulations and coding guidelines.
- Review patient medical records and assign appropriate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes.
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies and follow up on unpaid claims.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and handle pre-authorizations and referrals.
- Assist in resolving billing and coding discrepancies and appeals.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and administrative staff to ensure accurate documentation and coding practices.
- Keep up-to-date with changes in coding regulations and industry standards.
- Provide training and support to staff on billing and coding practices as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience required. A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Certification: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or equivalent certification is preferred, but not required if extensive experience is demonstrated.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing and coding, preferably in a GI practice.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Skills: Strong understanding of healthcare billing procedures, insurance claims, and reimbursement processes.
- Proficiency: Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) and billing software.
- Attributes: Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
